Summer Announcement 2025

Understandable for the vacation but right now I just experienced a situation where the server crash has made it where on Xbox. There is no way to get back on. I want to register this in the bug fixes right now

I respect the vacation but we’re trying to play The Game. I’m locked out of the game right now when i’m trying to play

Launch finally went back to normal

I personally do not care about solo mode, but what I do care about is companies fulfilling their promises. Just like 343 did with campaign co-op mode in Halo Infinite for example (they did actually pull through, even though it was delivered 60 000 years too late).

Does anyone here who speaks about solo mode have a link to an official statement from Fatshark or something where they literally promised solo mode for Darktide?

I just wish to see it because I feel this discussion has been around since the dawn of time, but I have never actually seen the statement from Fatshark themselves. Enlighten me please, so that I can be even more upset about Fatshark haha.

Cheers!

opens the Book of Grudges

Somehow, it went from ‘totally nearly ready’ to ‘ironing out issues’ a few months later, then ‘not a priority’ a year later.

I’m still so baffled by the “we’re still working on it” in May '23 to “we might return to it” in October '23. Even if the whole “what makes solo play important to you” came off condescending to me, though I fully admit that I’m super jaded and cynical about the situation and am likely subconsciously adding a condescending spin to the question

I’m still waiting for a new faction to pwn in this vanilla game.

Thanks for enlightening me, Ragnarok.
The Book truly is the one light that unifies us in here. MVP. :fire:

Then I absolutely get the whole ordeal. All they could do is to simply say something like:
“We have previously stated that solo mode was a part of the development plan. Unfortunately, plans change. Because of x, y, z, we have decided that we will not be delivering this game mode for Darktide. We understand that this will be extremely disappointing news for many of you, and for that we are terribly sorry. Hopefully, we will be able to prove our worth down the line by continuing to add fresh and exciting content to Darktide as we move along. The Emperor protects”.

At least then people could get some peace of mind.

But again, this is Fatshark. Am I surprised? Not at all. Am I disappointed? Always.

That kind of scummy PR response is what any other company would give. Something that kind of maybe sounds apologetic if you tilt your head 90° to the right and squint, but ultimately reeks of “we’re trying to cover our ass”, but Fatshark? No, Fatshark doubles down on the “if I can’t see them, they can’t see me” logic and all of us are just staring at them as they squeeze their eyes shut and cover their ears in the center of the living room going “la la la la la, I’m not listening!”

I’d take this:

over this:

any day

Even if the question wasn’t intended to be condescending, it still comes off as kind of… pointless filler. The majority of Solo advocates on this forum have posted numerous times over why we want the mode. I’ll take it one level further. I don’t think Fatshark quite understands the level of sheer stress it induces in me to play with Randoms. Keep in mind, all my friends have long since stopped playing this game, but I still want to.

Now I know the vast majority of folks on this forum do not understand my point of view. But I also know there’s a handful of you out there who do.

Stress you say? How so? Because when I hop on a game with Randoms, I am constantly stressed out about “Am I playing well enough? Are the people in this game enjoying the game playing with me? Am I enjoying playing the game with them?” And god forbid someone should drop out mid-game and I immediately assume they dropped out because I totally suck. And the amount of sheer stress that induces in me, the worry over whether the other randoms on my team are having an ok time, is one of the most unpleasant, yet easily avoidable, things I’ve ever experienced. I cannot express how much I hate playing with strangers and the lengths to which I will go in order to avoid doing it.

To those of you who would respond by saying “Well then Darktide is not the game for you.” I say back - you are 100% correct. But it damn well should be - in exactly the same way that Helldivers 1&2, Vermintide 1&2, Left4Dead 1&2, Payday 1 2 & 3, and every other 4 player mob shooter ever released before this is.

The truth is quite obviously to keep the hosting costs as bare-ass as possible for maximum profit. This means limiting the number of live scenarios being held by forcing players to search up together instead of playing how they want to play.

Admitting that would mean admitting that the player experience is secondary to money, even though its obvious and no one would blame them for it. Its just that people want the product to be worth the money.

Preach! I don’t have much anxiety when running dungeons or raids with pugs in mmos (usually just frustration with stupid people causing wipes), but even then I’d still prefer to play solo w/ bots if available (which, FFXIV did add for the majority of story dungeons last I checked, raids are still PUG or Static only)

But in this genre? I’ve never had fun with randoms, it’s always been annoying and unfun. I leave the game with this “that was the worst” feeling. And I’ve tried multiple times, it’s not the lack of VC because I don’t mind random people joining my hunts in Monster Hunter or when my friend and I duo Vermintide 2 when I can’t hop on Discord for whatever reason, it’s literally just the random people forcing me to adapt my playstyle in a way that I find unfun that other games don’t do.

In an MMO the tank and healer dictate how fast you go in a dungeon, but it’s so rarely so fast/so slow that it’s unfun and you’d rather kick them or leave. In monster hunter the addition of random players doesn’t change how I hunt the monster except someone might capture instead of kill and I might have to use a lifepowder to heal the party. In the Horde Shooter/Slasher genre, all it takes one person to run off into the distance to trash the party’s coordination. Everyone gets so focused on following them that specials from behind start wreaking havoc or the director says “slooow down!” and launches waves of elites and hordes while you’re still in the “special spawn trigger” timer and then everything goes to crap. Some people thrive in that chaos, good for them, I prefer going through these games more methodically like a tactical shooter than like Rambo on speed. I can’t do that with randoms because the speed is always dictated by the fastest person, not the slowest
