"Stop hitting armor!" - they say as we fight a Crusher

“Stop hitting armor!” or “Aim for the weakspot!” Scream the rejects.

What does FatShark mean by this? Crushers have no weakspot, and they are completely covered in Carapace. From my experience these lines only trigger when fighting Crushers. But even if they didn’t, these lines would only work for a Scab Rager who has a Carapace torso but a Flak head.

Could this mean that the Crusher will get a weakspot in a future update? It’s definitely giving me that impression hearing these lines that, from my experience, were just shadow-added at some point.

Well if that ever happens in the future, then I just hope that the Dueling Sword and other outliers will not get away from nerfs in the same update that implements this change.

Okay I checked and they also play all Ogryn types. But the Bulwarks only has Carapace Armor on his arms and feet and the Reaper only has Carapace on his hands and shoulder.

Still, it’d be weird for FatShark to make lines instructing us to hit the weakspot as if we intentionally aim at a Bulwarks arms or Reapers shoulder pad.

Darktide was such a different game before the incident :sob:, I assume the crusher design was probably the same as a chaos warrior during development and they decided to make it fully carapace at some point.

But the thing is, I don’t remember hearing these lines when I was playing throughout the Unlocked and Loaded, Grim Protocols and Mortis Trials update. It seems that these lines were added recently.

Pretty sure these voice lines were always in the game. Maybe a remnant from development when crushers were more likely chaos warriors, as in, actually had weaker head armor and didn’t just bounce most attacks. Then for some reason they decided that actually 95% of attacks should completely bounce off crushers and since then the main, giant, glaring balancing issue with all of darktide has been here.

My guess: An attempt to encourage more teamplay by forcing people to have dedicated anti armor weapons.

Nah they’ve always been screaming em obnoxiously often. Same deal with “they’re in cover, flush em out”.

There still seems to be a Weakspot modifier for the head, and it is a carry over from VT2 suggesting you hit the weakspot & use your heavy attacks, as light get significantly diminished by armor types.

Same with ranged except its depends a lot more on whether weapon pierces armors or you have rending of some sort… the dialog doesn’t know this though =/

Friendly Fire too even though its non-existent… i think it probably was in beta before they scrapped the carryover.

99% sure they were in the game before. I’m pretty sure these voice lines only trigger when you hit carapace with weapons that don’t normally deal carapace damage (weapons with blue hit markers).

Maybe you just didn’t use weapons like that before or didn’t hit crushers with them? I definitely have seen the voice line a lot more recently since I’m playing gun scum and shooting crushers with the IAG lol. Game doesn’t realize that you get rending and actually are doing good damage.

It seems practically guaranteed to trigger if you hit Bulwark shields.

The game always had these reactions from players and damage.

Its the game, or characters, telling you to attack that with a different weapon, IE something with AP.

These callouts made more sense in V2 because of friendly fire, where your actions had consequences. Characters that took FF dmg (from you) let you know about it. This caused a reaction from the player, like oops i messed up maybe I wont shoot like that again and wait for a clear shot.

Since Darktide doesnt have this kind of accountability these words dont have the weight they used to.

you’re hitting armour

you

stupid

Well, then it’s just very weird. Crushers were always covered fully in Carapace, so when I hit them in the head with my fully charged Thunder Hammer I still just hear some dumbahh Karker scream “Use your eyes, stop hitting armor!”

i’d feel more stupid if i wasn’t hitting anything.

Nuke Uncanny from orbit, remove Thrust from Dueling Sword and give Crushers a flak weakspot rear. What is so controversial about expanding the viable weapon pool and nerfing the most egregious outliers?

If they were changed together, there wouldn’t be an excuse to review bomb.

Ogryns get to beat reality into submission, may as well be aluminum foil instead of Carapace. :man_shrugging:

The DS is so powerful that even without Uncanny Strike, it still decimates Flak enemies. Its Critical Weakspot Damage is outrageously high.

You know I was thinking, if FatShark were to remove the Dueling Sword from, let’s say, the Veteran, but give him a new ranged weapon in the same update, would this balance out angry players, review bombing the game and happy players giving the game positive reviews?

I feel another post coming on…

Maybe? Vet does need a new ranged weapon, but unlikely the DS gets removed from Vet without big backlash.:man_shrugging:

Yeah, DS has among the best weakspot/Crit damage multipliers for melee weapons. Might be good to just nuke Uncanny then tweak DS a bit at a time though. Uncanny just ignores armor it’s wild
