So WHERE exactly is the original?

It’s actually this one that I want

This is a salient point, for an event like a decadal celebration, you would expect the very best the games have to offer. Sadly both the VT2 event and the Darktide event rewards (though the event itself seems fine, minus a few minor missteps like the default binds) and cosmetics sales are rather uninspired.

I can easily look past VT2 since it’s already had so many generous events and sales, yet for Darktide, which is still limping along somewhere near where it ought to have been at launch, it’s sad to see.

True, I also have that veteran helmet.

I just bought the second season pass for Space Marine 2, because their cosmetics are extremely high quality and I can colour almost all of them.

I feel like they deserve my money as a reward because they put effort in to consistent updates, no FOMO bs store, recolours of my own choice and an intricate cosmetic system that allows me to pick and choose many parts at will.

Is it perfect? no. Is it miles ahead of the Darktide store? Yes.
Even Anthems store is better than Darktides and that FOMO store rotated predictably, you could earn premium currency ingame, albeit slowly, and the colour system was incredible, with textures, a colour swatch, interesting patterns and many decals you could place yourself.

The biggest mistake FS ever made was to outsource their store to a 3rd party company that makes some pretty low quality sloppy mediocre cosmetics that dont actually match the source material faithfully, has been caught selling duplicate cosmetics (remember the knife?), has terrible colours with lack of any options, has FOMO with no return of items and is EXPENSIVE af!

Honestly idkw anyone ever spends money on the store. I will buy any DLC FS have but I still have no incentive to spend money on the store.

I swear FS, if the game wasnt so darn brilliant, I would have dropped you like a hot potato for the store alone!

I do it sometimes when I like something enough, mainly pants and headwear, less often weapons and almost never outerwear. I see it less like a shop, but more like donations to promote DT/FS’ existence with the cosmetics as a thank-you bonus.

Thats mainly how I see it too, but with the shop being so anti-consumer I just cant justify spending the money on it. Im happy to spend money on the game, just not the shop.

I can absolutely understand that position. I can justify it for myself since we get regular free updates, new content and servers without a monthly fee or the like, with premium cosmetics and new classes as the optional (!) exceptions. Actually, I’m usually more inclined to give money for a “good cause” (here: a game that I’m enjoying) when I’m not forced to do it. But that’s just me, shared because of your quote above.

This is parody, right?

They did say each item will PROBABLY return, not that each item would definitely return!

It’s weird to don’t see the original variant helmets and backpack in the current rotation.

For my part, I’m still more butthurt at how poorly the Krieg cosmetics match the actual models and art, the Chinesium e-sweatshop couldn’t even manage a basic copy-pasta job. The FOMO absurdity on top is just the icing on the cake.
