I joined a chasm station mission at the start of the map, the host was already at the bridge and I appeared back at the landing pad. When I ran forward to catch up I discovered a sniper standing in this spot (screenshot from a different mission because I forgot to take one the first time). Snipers and other specials should not be able to spawn here because this is the player’s spawn, and also the Atoman military is standing right there with riflemen, turrets and several tanks.
Not sure how much more detail I can give you. This is the warlord assassination mission where the target arrives by train. When you start the mission you begin on a landing pad, then you go through a tunnel with some atoman soldiers sleeping in a room on the right, before turning left and moving onto a bridge. The bridge is blocked by a bunch of cargo containers and other debris forming a ramp. The screenshot I took was taken from this ramp, facing back the way I came. This is the spot where I found a sniper after joining the mission late.
Again, it doesn’t make sense for enemies to be able to spawn here because this is intended to be a safe zone for the players. If you join the game late like I did and a special kills you in this area, the rest of the team cannot backtrack to pick you up. Also it doesn’t make sense when the Atoman army is right there with guns and tanks pointed at this exact location ready to kill anything that moves. It breaks the immersion too much. Do you understand now?
Im not entirely sure this is a bug, or rather specials spawning behind you as you advance across the bridge is something I see semi regularly at heresy and damnation and it never seemed that out of place to me, though its usually dogs or mutants.
I would assume they only spawn there after the group has passed, and the real issue is the fact that the game likes to spawn people joining after the start all the way back at the landing pad when the rest of the team and bots have already moved well along.
Tbh late joiners should always be joining the group directly, having to run the opening sequence to catch up feels like the real bug to me.
They spawn there if you go to the bridge and then just hang around for a while near the drop-down onto the bridge (maybe you’re waiting for people to join or something). It’s to encourage you to start moving forward.
If you start the match and get onto the bridge without hanging around and start moving forward, they won’t spawn.
Sorry, I was looking into it by asking the devs whether this was intended or not, did not mean to tag it as need more info publicly.
Devs confirm that enemies start to spawn as soon as a single player leaves the starting zone and may go wherever they wish, which does mean that situations like these can happen but that they’re expected.
