Dedicated AP weapons require less finesse and skill to deal with armor, and thus the ones that do it through effective headshots can be slightly more versatile (or simply have the easy headshots as an option for single-target damage, including armor, and have their expertise elsewhere). As the game stands, some methods of dealing with armor are required, and dedicated AP weapons are generally the most effective and easiest options for that, but others can work too.
Since the topic has somewhat changed from bolt staff(which could really use increased zoom as the charges accumulate to get a better idea when it’s fully ready to fire, maybe even increased projectile speed at max level) to Sienna’s weapons in general, would it be too lore breaking to have her swing a flaming flail?
A tar censer?
Well, certainly, unlike claws or a flame whip (but like a 2h flame sword), it would be easy to implement, as animations already exist.
It’s been suggested in the past. Several times. Do I believe it’ll be added? nah.
So yes, it would be too much to ask.
WAT?
WAT???
So 1h Mace and 2h Hammer are not AP weapons, and DnD too. Son, I’m disappoint!
Quick test.
Does normal attack to protected location (body) cause damage and or knockback?
If YES, then it’s AP weapon.
If NO, it’s not AP weapon.
Weapon with swing/stab on good trajectory to land easy headshots is not an AP weapon by definition.
Headshot =/=armor piercing.
Thank you, that is all.
Rhetorical question.
Asked to make a point.
I’m not sure what point you are trying to make by defining “AP” or “non-AP” weapons like this – even reading back through the chain.
In any event, your definitions don’t make any sense. Why are we only classifying a weapon as “AP” or “non-AP” based on whether it can damage armored target on a light body swing? A lot of weapons have great armor pen on charged strikes. /sigh
Also, even using your own silly definition, light 2H mace attacks definitely damage armor on a light body swing. 1000 without any modifiers.
Oh, and what does this have to do with bolt?! We should definitely stay on topic in this here post.
it is related to the topic because sienna’s weakness is fighting loads of armoured units, the bolt staff is a little unwieldy in that sense therefore the conversation moved to her solutions for armour.
if only they brought back sienna’s homing charged bolt… that would be totally fun but the community would be like NO FRIGGIN WAY
I think some people are using the acronym for the armor penetration trait on weapons and some are using “AP” as a blanket term for any weapon that is viable against armored units.
The jist I got was that her melee options are lackluster when it comes to anti-armored options which accentuates the issues with bolt staff as her only technically Armor Piercing weapon.
Sorry. /sarcasm. Couldn’t resist since Isshagel was being a bit salty above.
Although, the distinction between “AP” and “Non-AP” weapons using this definition is sort of meaningless and didn’t contribute anything from what I could tell.
The homing stuff in VT1 was a little insane. Like trueflight bow? That thing wrecked. You could just stand beside an ammo crate and shoot into the air. I could already visualize some fun builds using a homing bolt… Even here, the reason the RSS proc interaction on beam is busted is due in part to the homing nature of Sienna’ s ult. Well, that and there should be a hard proc limit within a certain time period.
Not a problem.
I knew thread would derail as soon as there was “but beam staff!” Post.
Btw:" if you stand next to an ammo crate" should never be nowhere near criteria for balancing a weapon.
Homing has certain range, and projectile will be wasted if there’s no unit in charge.
In V1 it was always just trueflight or hagbane. Since melee wasnt subclass tied, no point is using middle-man ranged weapons.
but it was really fun =( i played the game for so long just because of trueflight mechanics. OP? yea. fun? hell yea. but it still doesn’t make cataclysm is a walkover. you still need to play properly and take precautions.
Back to topic: After dabbling with bolt a little more, I am more and more convinced that it is one of Sienna’s most powerful weapons, but it is counter-intuitive. Bolt is an absolute horde-clearing machine when geared towards it. I run it paired with flame sword and you are virtually untouchable, anything just dies because of the insane DPS you can pack. Killing SV and specials is very good with it over medium to medium-long distances. CW killing is only a problem because of the high overcharge the charged bolt generates, but it does wreck them quite well.
Bolt has only two main issues: overheat generation is very high and boss damage is mediocre at best, which is fair considering its other boons. But since it is considered a sniper weapon, I’d say it does need a zoom, less damage fall-off and it could use more damage on the last charge of the charged bolt at the cost of even more overcharge.
BUT: SV killing is fast and efficient, killing CW is working well on medium distances when you can reliably hit the head. Specials just die to your bolts.
What I would like to see is being able to hit some relevant break points with the charged bolts against armour. Right now, it is only worth chasing break points vs. unarmoured targets as the charged bolt’s damage is in that purgatory where its base damage is high enough to two shot stormvermin and armoured specials on body shots, but stacking damage against anything doesn’t get you anywhere.
And while I am no fan of anecdotal evidence provided by screenshots: You don’t want to see my scoreboards with bolt. It simply wrecks.
