It happens quite often that shotgunners in this game are barely audible, or sometimes not at all.
I think this happens because the shotgunner audio gets buried almost completely by basically anything else that’s happening.
Maybe the audio priority is super low, but in my experience it’s almost impossible to hear a shotgunner at a distance that’s firing their shotgun, I’d honestly think that something was overlooked when designing the shotgunner.
In this clip, a shotgunner from behind was completely silent while a hound spawned and a backstab occurred.
Thank you for your report. Could you please provide your console logs from a session where this occurred, as well as your launcher log file?
These may be found by doing the following:
Upload Console Log:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
- Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide\console_logs
- Locate the console log that corresponds with the session in which the issue occurred, by looking at the timestamps in the log names
- Upload here
Upload darktide_launcher.log:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
- Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide
- Locate the darktide_launcher.log in this directory
- Upload here
Sorry to say I didn’t take note of the time so I can’t provide the console log of when this happened.
Hello, I got back from the devs that this might be caused by some audio settings. Is there any chance that you’ve got your ingame audio set to 5.1 and your headphones cannot support it? That could cause sounds from behind to not play at all.
In addition, could you give us your user_settings.config file? It should be in the same folder as your darktide_launcher.log file.
I use stereo speakers. 5.1 was not pleasant when I tried it.
user_settings.config (3.6 KB)
Thank you! If it’s not a bother, can you tell me what hardware you’re using for audio? Like what brand/model, what specific device, etc
I’m using Hercules XPS 2.0 10, some technical info linked below

I think it’s not that important in this case though, since the recorded video is independent from what audio hardware I use.
