Request to Bring Back Mannan's Tempest and Addaioth's Splendour to Chaos Wastes

Weekly Expedition!

The Chaos Wastes mode in Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has always stood out for its build freedom and powerful combinations throughout expeditions. The removal of Mannan’s Tempest and Addaioth’s Splendour reduced part of that strategic variety.

Mannan’s Tempest provided strong offensive impact and interesting horde-clearing synergies, while Addaioth’s Splendour increased versatility and team potential. Both reinforced the chaotic and experimental identity of the mode.

Bringing these two powers back would once again increase creativity, build diversity, and replayability in Chaos Wastes.

In isolation I agree they are fun, but as they stacked insanely with anything that improved crit and on something like Pyro/Merc crits because so frequent it reduced the fun of the others in the run to walking-sim spectators. I remember OE with Addaioths being insane fun for the guy who got it, miserable boringness for everyone else. Stunlocking bosses with exposions reduced mino’s to zero threat.

They were OP as described above. There were ideas to limit them to triggering at most every 8 seconds or so, but they went with the idea to make them weapon traits.

The reason you’re probably finding this to be an issue is because, and why you so rarely ever get them is twofold.

  1. Even though it’s not explicitly stated anywhere, many weapons can’t get certain traits and there’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to it.
  2. By the time a player gets to the point where they can afford and obtain an Exotic or Veteran item in the Chaos Wastes, 80% of the traits that you can get won’t mean crap.

I have made threads addressing this issue. I suggest:

  1. Keep them as traits, but ensure that only Veteran Red tier weapons can get the best traits, and that the other ones don’t show.
  2. Likewise make Exotic Orange weapons unable to get the best traits, but make sure that the traits they can get are meaningful, e.g. “Swift Slaying”
  3. Allow Blue Rare and Green tier items to get all the lower tier traits like “restore stamina on headshot” etc.

Now, in addition, I think it probably would still be wise to limit on-crit devastating attacks to triggering at most every 5 to 8 seconds, and for the love of Sigmar, please make it so that Armor Shards doesn’t absolutely trivialize the game by killing everything a player gets near.

Yes, Duckfoot Bounty Hunter would have every single pellet cause a lightning bolt for each one in the shot. This is a good reason to restrict it to certain weapons still, but some of the weapon restrictions don’t make sense, and an easy fix is just to make it only able to once per x number of seconds.

I completely understand the balance issues that Addaioth’s Splendour and Mannan’s Tempest caused in the regular Chaos Wastes. The crit stacking definitely disrupted the pacing of runs and could turn a cooperative experience into something very one-sided.

But I’m not asking for them to return to the standard mode.

I would like to see them come back exclusively in the Weekly Expedition !

The Weekly Expedition is, by design, a rotating and experimental event that changes every week. It already exists to introduce unusual modifiers, rule-bending mechanics, and sometimes over-the-top experiences. In that context, extremely strong — even “broken” — boons actually make sense.

Since it’s temporary and optional:

  • It wouldn’t affect the long-term balance of Chaos Wastes

  • It wouldn’t impact players who prefer a more balanced experience

  • It would create memorable and unpredictable weeks

  • It would fully embrace the power fantasy in a controlled environment

If Weekly Expedition is meant to be the space for extreme variations and chaotic fun, then these boons would fit perfectly there.

I’m not asking for them to return as a permanent part of the mode — only as part of the weekly rotation, where chaos is part of the design.

Yes, but with the caveat that they still are limited to proccing once every x seconds, like the ability cooldown on crit once every 4 seconds.

If you have 100% Crit Chance for not upgrading a weapon with the Grail Knight perk that instantly slays on crit, the Necromancer with 25% more crit power, cleave, and exploding crits against burning enemies, or Witch Hunter Captain insta-kill headshots, it already breaks the game. However, it’s only once in awhile, but add to that 100% Crit Chance boon, unlimited lightning or exploding ranged shots, and you’ve got a recipe for a boring game.

There’s probably a separate thread that could be entirely devoted to weekly expedition modifiers and suggestions, but for this particular combination of boons still makes me frown a bit. The boons would need to still be handcuffed quite heavily and might make the run either - a nonentity in that the boons proc so infrequently as to make it a non-event of a weekly OR the balance breaks other weekly stuff, like lightning wiping the entire wave of boomtown rats for example.

I’m not against the idea of weeklies being looked at and using stuff like this for suggestions but this particular set of boons would need balancing with a scalpel.
