It doesn’t matter if you side dodge a gunner or a reaper after they start shooting, their projectiles will magically be shot at a 90 degree angle, I bet if you dodge fast enough the projectiles would be shot through the entire weapon and the enemy ass and then hit you.
my issue with the gunners is the bogus suppression they put on you. it just seemingly makes all your bullets vanish in thin air or nonsensically/comically miss, dumb-and-dumber-style.

I legitimately lost a run to this once against a sideways shooting reaper.
I was clutching a game as last man standing, dodging and approaching it in melee but it starts sideways shooting so its hurtbox was slightly further away than it would normally be otherwise. Meaning it was out of range of my attack ever so slightly, meaning I couldn’t stagger it with my melee attack and then the subsequent reaper shots pushed me backwards into a corner with zero cover to hide behind. I died, it was incredibly tragic, that reaper was the only remaining enemy stopping me from reviving the team.
Pox Hounds and Scab Trappers do this 90-180 degree nonsense as well.
Trappers doubly annoying in that at under 5m or so, you can’t actually dodge them. One arrives around the corner and winds up to shoot, you’re done for. Which makes no sense to me, because you’d move further out of the initial cone of fire the nearer you are?
If the game has to BS you in order to play against you… It means the devs have failed.
Fix the BS, think outside the box…
