Psyker, weak?

Its my favourite class, but its certainly not durable like other classes can be. A few hits and a Pysker is dead, while a few hits for Ogryn/Arbitrator can be safelty ignored. From that point of view I see the disparity, but Psyker still has amazing damage and utility.

I specifically meant that as in avoiding taking a hit in the first place. Everything you listed is damage mitigation, which relates to what happens after you have taken a hit in the first place. Not saying that makes them comparatively survivable to be clear, was just pointing out they are given the tools to avoid damage as much as they need to.

Also not going to comment on any Arbites comparisons, I haven’t bought them myself but if they’re as broken as you and others have been making out I refuse to use that as a comparison point anyway.

Damage prevention is a form of mitigation.

I’d much rather see a Psyker using a thought-out Crit build in melee combat avoiding Gunner damage with Empathic Evasion - using Warp precognitive abilities to enhance physical reflexes Matrix style - over a Psyker with an absurd amount of TDR face tanking that damage.

As for the synergy between high Crit consistency ranged weapons like Purgatus w/ Nexus and Empathic Evasion, yeah that’s currently busted. Perhaps Empathic Evasion should only apply on melee Critical hits and offer a less effective alternative for ranged Critical hits like enhanced movement speed with improved dodge recovery for a period of time after a Crit.

You don’t come off as a whining mediocre player to me, tbh. It’s a valid point, Arbites and Ogryn are far more forgiving by comparison. That’s a good thing, Psyker has a lot of damage potential and it should require a decent amount of Darktide experience to fully access that potential.

Psyker is weak defensively unless you play them really well, but DPS-wise it’s the #1 class in the game that’s the most consistent at dishing out more than 1 million damage in Havoc 40 lobbies.

There are only two options for psyker to be fun right now:
Scrier’s Gaze + knife/sword/guns
Being a sweatlord adrenaline junky with a flame staff
Other than that class sucks arse

You can die from playing the game, while other classes can stand surrounded by Elites spamming Light Attacks. :woman_shrugging:

Also lack of synergy with non-Psyker Weapons and Talents.

It does high unlimited Cleave damage on Havoc.

I think Psyker is without a doubt the squishiest class in the game. But that’s completely irrelevant if you’re running an Inferno / Surge Staff builds that absolutely shred.

That said, I like playing the Scrier’s Gaze build with a Kantrael Lasgun and a Force Greatsword, and survivability definitely becomes an issue. Ironically, it’s often the stray Poxwalkers that cause the biggest problems. Anyway, switching to max health curios helped a lot, since they reduce the chances of getting downed by sudden burst damage. It might be a bit silly to play a berserker-style Psyker, but I enjoy the playstyle and don’t mind the challenge. Still, it’d be nice to have more tools for staying alive.

Well flame staff is still most damaging psyker weapon and generally class put’s up numbers higher or on par with what other classes can do, gun psyker stronger than veteran, only problem is ammo, It lacks on TDR and generally got low numbers of health and toughness, but extremely fast toughness regen, need to learn to play around it.

I am all for rework talent tree for all classes, to make it like the ones ogre and arbites have.

Supposed to be anyways.

Yeah empathic evasion makes him totally busted

For example, yes.

There is so much more that makes this glass cannon have super regeneration.

True but I do still find that I need to be more carefull with psyker when i’m fighting a boss in melee than I need to be with any other class.

I get what you mean.

Fighting back in melee is where psyker feels unforgiving.

Defensively, psyker is insanely powerful.

Psyker is the typical mage character. Deals a lot of damage, has a lot of utility but is very fragile outside of its “spells” and shenanigans. You can ofc build to be tanky at the cost of damage.
IMO its the highest skill ceiling class ATM because you need to care about when and how touse your abilities and take care not to explode from overload.
So they are fragile but far from being weak.

Yeah they definitively do not need to be buffed

Scrier’s Gaze with force greatsword is still very fun to me.

I also think psyker has the most egregious trap talents. His absolute best stuff have zero visual cues when they’re active, so players not in the know keep gravitating to Wildfire or doing bubble smyker with electro staff.

Perilous Combustion.

or the one that lowers your peril generation and takes your toughness regen.

Both of those effects are bad for you

Hah, I appreciate the owning up to it. To be fair, the last few times I tried to play Psyker with a staff, I kept blowing up, so there’s probably a good reason I stick to IAGs with Scrier’s Gaze and just play Zealoteran.

I believe that the skill floor for Psyker is definitely higher, but like @alsozara said, you get insane return for it. I think it’s fine as is and doesn’t take too long to get used to.

Just keep playing Psyker. Try focusing on improving your defense with dodging while quelling and overall situational awareness (keeping track of specialists most importantly).
