This time, I come bearing clips to show off what I am experiencing. Due to file size constraints I will link to an unlisted video on youtube.
Do note that during the clip, my (deliberate) stepping into the location of the Poxburster AoE after it has detonated lags me out for a second time.
The issue is not map specific and also not intensity specific, though very low intensity situations involving Poxbursters will lag for what I experience as shorter times. I will attempt to capture this when it occurs.
Additionally, I would love feedback on whether or not these types of posts are helpful, and what I can improve about them. Or, if they’re not, to let me know and save us all some time.
Attempted Solutions (Optional):
Using FSR 3.1 QUALITY auto-enabled by the update, which makes the game look better overall, but makes the stutters feel even longer. Please don’t enable settings on my behalf. Feel free to give me a pop-up so I know they’re there.
Platform (Required):
PC - Steam
[PC] PC Specifications (Optional):
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU: Radeon RX 7900 GRE
Motherboard: MSI B650 DDR5
RAM: G.Skill Flare EXPO X5 DDR.5-6000 DIMM @ 6000
Storage: 2TB Lexar NM620 M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 3D-NAND TLC. (One holding windows, and a second, identical NVME holding Steam Library.)
1440p Native Resolution, Settings on High or Maximum, RayTracing OFF. for a solid 90+ FPS outside of the issue. No OC, Undervolting or anything. Hardware as stock.
I have recently swapped GPU from a 4060Ti. Drivers have been cleanly done using DDU. BIOS was also updated.
there have been two times where i had similar freezes like that, even worse to me, lasting for
several seconds and continuing doing this until forever, cutting the audio off as well. (i had to rejoin the mission to fix it)
The footage you have here is identical to my experience, stutters mixed with audio cutting off plus with a disconnect at the end. The weird thing is that your machine has better specs than me so this is not related to GPU or CPU.
Some people have speculated the problem might be related to a “memory leak”. But the only thing I can say for sure is that those issues weren’t so widespread until the Path of Redemption dropped early this year.
I will turn on some logging for RAM and VRAM, thanks for the suggestion!
Anecdotally, I’ve played since the very first day the game became available, with varying specs, and this issue 100% cropped up along the way with one of the bigger updates. Can’t personally say that it was PoR for certain since I took a few breaks from the game, but my gut feeling agrees with the timeframe.
On top of that the infinite loading screens. I think Darktide is connecting to servers by hostname where their DNS A records keep changing IP, so I setup flush DNS script to run on windows login everytime. Mentioned in FS article below.
Went ahead and tried AMD’s Radeon Super Resolution again to see if FSR 3.1 and FrameGen would maybe do their magic with it. 1080 to 1440p Setting. As it turns out, it did massively increase the reported FPS to something over 200, while visually not making any difference at all during gameplay.
It also did nothing to reduce Poxburster induced lag spikes.
What it did do, however, was very noticeably downgrade the visual quality. Do not recommend.
(Disregard me falling off the bridge at the end, that’s specifically player performance related.)
Another anecdotal observation I made: The game will sometimes become choppy after loading in the Mourningstar after playing a match. This will carry over into the next mission. Restarting between missions fixes this.
I will try to clip this as well, but I was playing with friends when I noticed it occurring and didn’t want their Discord audio clipped.
