idk if you’re just quipping, but their announcing we can “play at dawn on tertium” is almost certainly this given how the night missions already work.
I’ll be honest, the new maps could 100% use existing assets. Add one new map to each existing biome using remixed assets. I’m not saying to re-use entire level chunks, though if they played well from a new angle that’d be fine. Even re-mixed voice-overs wouldn’t bother me. I just want to have more interesting arrangements of rooms to play in.
Yes, optimally it’d be best to get all-new assets, biomes, etc. I’m just saying that remixes seem a good way to produce more content without as much cost. More maps are literally the ONE thing I’d never feel was “slop” unless they were just non-functional.
I’m dating myself, but who here remembers when games like Unreal Tournament 2004 had dozens, if not hundreds of maps? I know it’s a lot more involved today, but I’d sure love to have games go back to having “a lot of content” instead of 10-20 maps if you’re lucky.
Back then, map making was a genuine passion and launched the entire careers of tons of industry heavy hitters. Afraid those glory days are gone, kindred.
They have glorianna assets that could be used for at least 2 maps and feel fresh AF.
I’d still like to see some mines/canyons which the expeditions assets could be used for.
Biome art is not something that requires their whole team anyway. Their artist might create some key pieces but much of the art would likely be outsourced. So the flavour of map doesn’t make that much difference to workload.
Tbh much of the architecture assets could be reused in any biomes as imperial architecture is very standardised. Even torrent assets could be used elsewhere and probably have been used in expeditions. People have no idea how much sneaky recycling is done in videogames! ![]()
You know, with the comment about “discovering a factory where they upgrade Skitarii to Alpha Primus”, that kinda sounds like a mission out in the wastes right there.
The answer is extremely obvious. They can’t put a paywall with cosmetics behind a map.
Edit: Also seeing this trend of how the new DLC classes are basically gods in comparison to the regular rejects - they’re definitely going the route of making the DLC classes just straight up brain dead easy which in turn makes it much more likely that ANYONE will purchase the DLC because ANYONE can do good and thus purchase MORE cosmetics.
The dlc doesn’t have cosmetic rotations though, so it’s a weird one as a business model.
I wish they’d explain the reason for no rotations. It’s truly baffling.
The mode was dead on arrival.
I am not in some random region either. I am in California ffs and it’s dead on US West Coast servers.
Why do you they keep wasting resources on garbage that nobody asked for?
Are their shareholders under some delusion that this cobbled together mode will become a cashcow like Escape from Tarkov?
I mean. They’re clearly going for something here. Why else waste money on it?
Well. Whatever their reasoning is. It clearly ain’t gonna happen, capn.
TBF it’s likely extra dead because everyone is currently grinding skulls for aquillas. I imagine many people will resume grinding the absolutely obscene scrap penance afterwards.
But yeah I certainly wish they’d spent the dev time making 3 linear full size missions in the dead zone instead of expeditions.
What ? While we do know that FS had some outsourced work done for the Chaos Waste update in VT2, we do know that they have quite a lot of internal artists, both for Concept arts, and for map assets creation.
‘if this class doesnt trivialize havoc 40 im not even gonna buy it’
Exactly what I think. This is HD2 adapted to Darktide.
I have appreciated HD2, but not to the point of making this game one of my regular games. I don’t even play it.
But I must admit that HD2 > Darktide expeditions, and by far.
I want new maps (biomes) and new missions (what we actually play).
On Gloriana, I hope they can add missions… not sure however considering the look of the map.
About game modes… I don’t understand why, when the community regularly asks for a Chaos Wastes mode adapted to Darktide (nota: I never played such a thing on VT2 in my 26 hours testing it), Fatshark chooses to deliver… Expedition game mode.
I really don’t understand… it is like visiting a car dealer and asking for a red car, and the dealer delivers you, 6 months later, a different car type and a blue one.
All studios outsource a lot of asset creation. It’s cost effective rather than having a bunch of artists twiddling their thumbs when there’s downtime. Its been that way for well over a decade, especially so for such a tiny studio that can’t afford to pay artists to twiddle thumbs.
As I said there will be some art created in-house but Im sure much of it is created by outsource artists. The actual dressing of levels will all be in-house, but they’ll just have some assets to use that have been created by outsourcers. All still rigourously passed by the art director and/or senior artists.
The amount of assets required for modern games is just too vast for an in-house team to cover in the time required. Teams are kept as small as possible by the suits who skim the cream.
To be honest, they made a fatal mistake by trying to split their already dwindling player base into multiple game modes. They should have integrated everything directly into the main missions. Forcing players to access these modes from completely different locations instead of a single central terminal—and failing to include them in Quickplay matchmaking—destroys user activity even further.
The worst part is that the community was simply asking for something akin to Chaos Wastes: a series of randomized missions with in-game weapon upgrades. They could have executed that beautifully. Yet, for some reason, they thought that fragmenting their audience and delivering poorly implemented game modes was a better idea.
They actually remove content from the main game mode. Know 2 people who quit when Auric Heresy was removed. It was the only difficulty they enjoyed.
I’m not sure what FS considers NA West geographically but it’s always been (relatively) low pop. Even during prime time NA East will have 2x or more LFG.
What?
You don’t think i have figured out how to switch regions?
It’s dead on the East Coast servers too.
I may get another player that joins me. That’s it.
This mode is dookie and it’s dead.
I am unsure to how come there are those who have opinions claiming somehow something is “dead” when I’m finding players in the quickplays ![]()
Like anything, there is always a rotation of players that do like to hop between game modes
As far as players such as V, politely, I am guessing it’s due to your level of gameplay as you are known to be at such a high tier of gameplay (Havoc & Auric Maelstrom) to where Mortis Trials and Expeditions are not at your level of satisfaction. That is okay, as it is made aware to devs you are amongst those asking for a greater challenge, it may come (we shall see)
