Yes I know this is being echoed by literally everyone at the moment. I don’t know if Fatshark even reads these forum posts anymore, but please, this one change would restore so much enjoyment for me. I wouldn’t even mind if it reset the material costs if you changed the other stat, ANYTHING PLEASE!!!

I still think the locks are a relatively small part of much bigger issues with the crafting system but since everyone seems to be so unreasonably tunnel visioned on that one point I guess that’s the best place to start.
I actually agree with you. For the record. Imo it is not the worst problem. Its just moderately annoying and has an obvious resolution.
Yeah agreed it’s probably the quickest and easiest to fix so may as well start there.
The locks are the unnecessary obstacle at the end of the already perposterously low odds of acquiring the thing you want and the stat distribution you want. Like the lottery wasn’t already stupid from the amount of time you need to wait for good things to appear in the armory or money for Brunts. They don’t need to also get bricked.
This alone would instantly grant them same good PR for once but they tend go do the complete opposite of what we want.
any solution that removes the locks would be very good PR (and of course make community happy):
- remove locks completely from game
- remove locks by spending diamantine (they would go back after crafting as they do now)
- remove locks when upgrading weapon (imho that is the real crafting experience)
- doing some challening melk quests, without time gating it, uppon completion granting lock removal service
imagine also being able to downgrade weapon back to gray and share resources account wide
this is the way, emperor protects!

Very true. Unreasonable design choices get unreasonable responses and all that. But at the same time, can you really expect players to be okay with gating agency in terms of crafting? In a game where there are tons of build combinations to try and no reliable way to equip them?
If FS fixed nothing else but locks at the VERY LEAST, players can at least focus on ONE weapon to work on as they play instead of bricking 100s for no guarantees of a desired roll.

I think you’re misunderstanding me. I’m not saying locks aren’t dumb or that they shouldn’t be removed, just that their removal alone doesn’t really fix the parts of the system I find most egregious. Even with locks gone it would still be theoretically possible to consecrate a weapon 100 times and not see the blessing you want for your library, improbable certainly, but absolutely within the realms of possibility, and the more people who play the game the higher the chance such occurrences actually happen to people. Each failed attempt gets you absolutely no closer to what you want. It’s this unmitigated RNG moreso than locks that I find absolutely unacceptable.
TL;DR lock removal would be nice but it ultimately wouldn’t make this “progression” system feel like there’s any more actual progression to it. It’d still be a straight up slot machine.

Agreed - I’ve got the crafting mod where I can say “hey, refine this Perk until it hits a level 4” and it routinely takes 100+ rolls to get the modifier that I want.
And that is with a mod that does it within a fraction of the time
The whole system is designed to artificially increase time spent with the game, mainly in parts of the game where you are literally not playing – you’re just hitting the same buttons on the slot machine over and over and over again.
If I’ve already spent all the required mats to reroll something, and we’re now on the “ok all the subsequent rolls are free,” give me a &#(*$ing dropdown menu. Why are you clearly and INTENTIONALLY wasting my time to do something that was easily remedied when the idea was first thought up, let alone now.
I have a lot of complaints about this game, and yet the gameplay itself keeps bringing me back. But the parts about the game that are the worst offenders are the parts that are very obviously in spite of the players just so they can boost active time within the game.
At this point, I feel like 95% of the core player base is on the same page. The crafting system is trash and needs a re-work. Yet FS hasn’t even acknowledged the complaints, not even the usual ‘we hear you’. That either means they are quietly working on it, or they’ve chosen to die on this hill and bury their heads in the sand.

Straight facts, Well said. What you said that stood out to me was “unmitigated RNG”. I think this is something we definitely are aware of but not talking enough about compared to the locks. I am also concerned with how a lockless but still pure RNG crafting system pans out in the future. However as it stands, i think lock Removal for the time being is just as egregious as non-progressive RNG.
