Neutral to Bad.
I voted Bad.

It has lots of potential a.k.a. will be dead in a month as FS squanders more of their work.

Its horrible, reasons being

  1. It’s a blander and more boring version of Chaos Wastes
  2. The Tech-Remnants serve no purpose other than acting as a barrier to playing the harder zones
  3. Unoptimized as hell and this is likely to stay the same throughout the game modes lifespan
  4. Penance requirements and rewards suck ass
  5. Its another game mode the game simply does not need

I give it a month before everyone abandons it like the community did with Mortis Trials. I want to ask Fatshark, what purpose did you see this game mode serving, and what makes you think people will actually want to play this compared to the regular mission board or Havoc?

I’m standing alone in a tight alley between a building and a cliff face on the Expedition map and the game runs at 67 FPS.

So i go around the same building, parkour on top of it and watch group of enemies running at us from all directions, with wide space all around and the game runs at 105 FPS.

They just gave up on optimization when the Scum came out and it shows!

I can’t give it a proper opinion yet because the one game I played had insufferably bad pubs. Are all pubbies this stupid?

I’m really curious. Why does the fat shark think we like simple collection without any rewards? Or does the fat shark think that unlocking more difficult levels is the reward (this is just too ridiculous)?

I got 2 good groups earlier, so not currently. We’ll see if it’s gotten worse with NA getting into peak

i think the changes to the ilas are good, but the sight picture is still awful on MK2b due to how the recoil animation is (the twisting makes it feel awful to use). i think they should just make ilas braced on ADS instead at this point, or make it feel more similar to helbore lasguns.

otherwise i don’t have many thoughts other than point-blank barrage sucks still, power falchion change is good but kind of meaningless, and thunder hammer needs actual adm against maniac on unpowered light to really get what it needs (the rest of the changes it got were just ???)

for the new gamemode, i think it’s fun and something different enough from the core gameplay loop, and it’s also easy for them to expand on in a cohesive manner down the line unlike mortis trials, which needs a major looking at imo to make it actually interesting to play. the rewards are.. eh, but that’s most gamemodes imo since there’s no good resource sink when you have things maxed out. maybe use expeditions as a way to reintroduce red weapons later on.

that aside, some weapons could probably do with new marks, or just new weapon archetypes (I’m still waiting for that 2h power axe, fatshark)

So we got a mode no one was asking for, executed in a horrible way that punishes you for being curious, with a playerbase that already struggles with the concept of coherence in tight corridors and rewards that are laughable. So it will be dead in like a month.
The performance of the game is worse than it ever was. I am running a Ryzen 7600X3D and RTX 7800 XT and in the wasteland, I am constantly dropping below 60 fps with FSR and Frame Generation…
I have already given up on the idea that textures will ever load properly in this game as long as I have a somewhat stable framerate, which is no longer the case.
We got a bunch of nerfs where the entire community is asking why we got them in the first place. If they are necessary or not, I can not say, but if the majority of the community says they are not wanted, why force them?
So yeah… all in all, this is a horrible update that offers nothing new that is of value and that which was already there is now running worse because apparently optimization is to much to ask for from a game that is older then SM2 and runs worse then SM2.
TL;DR: Can’t wait to see the new mode to be dead in a month or two.

Edit: As an AMD user, I have to fiddle around with my ini.file since apparently there are some things in the ini you can change that make things run smoother for AMD, like deactivating forced Raytracing, yes even if you turn it off in game it is still active in the ini, and fixing fullscreen, which is bugged since over a year.
On a hunch, I checked my ini.file after the big update and apparently my changes had been reset. Now that they are implemented again, I can run expeditions on 70-90 fps instead of below 60 fps.

Well there’s basically just a mode that holds zero interest for me and a small number of balance changes. This is a small patch masquerading as a big one, and we go another three months without meaningful content. So, bad. Honestly, it’s worse than that, but I don’t care so much about a game that I’ll call it horrible.

I avoid maps with auspex and or carry mechanics, push a button pull a lever. - Magistrati Oubliette - is Perfection!

Totally agree. I actually completed the Flawless Execution penance on this map — 15 missions in a row without going down (Malice). In this mode, there’s just no time to pull out the Auspex when two groaners can delete half health in a second

top keks FS. Even I can’t defend your mode if it’s crashing, glitching, and aborting. Big brain to add a “valuable” currency that your shite servers can take away after a whole run.

Ranged enemies need to have the same shot spread rules that players have, OR we need to have their rules. It’s just not fair to be gunned down from all sides with pinpoint accuracy from sniper range.

This applies to the regular game mode too, of course.

Also, optimization optimization optimization.

At first I chose “neutral”, but honestly I’m leaning towards “good” slightly more.

The game mode is fun while there’s still stuff to see and do there.

The dark version of the wastes’ map is gorgeous and very moody.

What pushes me over the line towards hating this new mode is the fact that we have the exact template of what’s going to happen with Mortis Trials from last year. Mortis Trials ate up 2/4 updates of 2025, Expeditions will do the same, potentially more given how much larger it is in scope.

Is the content cycle from now on just going to be a new gamemode and a new class every year and then maybe 1 weapon or a map if we’re lucky?

It is disappointing because neither of these modes were something anyone was clamouring for.

I’m actually really enjoying it now I’ve settled in a bit. Still I find the lack of direction a bit annoying and I think the valkarie takes too long to land, but a few teething issues are expected. Love the maps and scale of the new mode

Its nice to have something new. That said it still needs work and honestly it would have been a much better decision to release another 2-3 maps. Even before another class we need some new maps. Why is this not happening?

Thought it was great but the continued crashes in expeditions have made me much less positive about it.
