I’d be curious to know what you mean by this. I’m not a veteran main but I took the power sword and chain axe out for a spin on vet over the last few days and, while I wouldn’t favor meleeing them over other options, i didn’t find it prohibative.
I’m curious by what you mean on that point as well. I find swapping it to be handy but hardly the focus. I tend to position as artillary when playing plasma gun.
You can play swap focused, it’s just harder to play melee on vet compared to other classes. You can even swap out of the attack cutting the kickback/slowdown short. It’s pretty handy in engage heavy teams.
Its less sustainable than the other vet guns but has a great swap time the other vet heavy weapons have to F for so you have to play a lot of melee to make good on its strengths. Which is not veteran at all, and I really miss bleed grenades using it. This is where I would personally swap Bolter on Zealot if I had a choice.
I’m also not opposed to ammo as a concept existing for some weapons.
Now you can use reload ult so you can run the full nade setup with it. You’ll miss the snipe/anti-ogryn setup so no ogryn onetaps, but it’s a fair tradeoff.
Considering Deadshot doesn’t work and One After Another isn’t that necessary given you can now keep firing off of heat discharge special rather than reloading, I actually have been running Frag Storm still.
I’ve also been using Counterfire instead of Bigger They Are. Mostly just so I can keep uptime on that +25% damage on weakspot and Unwavering Focus damage reduction. IMO this is a more versatile build. Yeah I suffer against crushers/reapers, but I can still kill them reasonably fast.
Then just use them? I know extra reload speed is nice, but the reload is long af even with One After Another and as you should favor the primary fire generally Deadshot becomes less meaningful.
This pretty much solves your problem of having to melee crowds with veteran.
Well that’s me, I use Counterfire because I like wallhacking things with plasma, and expanding that to more refreshes. So I really want a reload feat for when it is unavoidable, because they still do happen though yeah it is way better mileage on M1 generally. And even more with CF and headshots.
example, when a single rager is attacking , you can not use power attacks and do normal melees, or even dodge&charge sword->attack, but once multiple ragers or maulers do exist at once, which is normal even at T3, you need to use your ranged weapon. it also goes the same for flamers in chokepoints or gunners, need to use your ranged weapon.
