Only in Death Does Duty End

Is she meant to be [another] Margaret Thatcher?
I know little of WH40k, other than it was meant to be satirical of her government at the time.

This is not a political post. I’m just curious if this character has a written history, or is just new for DT?

No the „satirical version of British society“ is pretty much a thing of the past.

And while commissars are a very common theme this particular one has no previous lore I‘m aware of.

@FatsharkStrawHat we been waiting for premium cosmetics ala Commissar Greatcoats, was surprised there was none available this current rotation with how we just had latest itemization rework release, and how we are introduced to a new Commissar character yet we get no other items other than the hats

Wait, commisars are adjuncts to the imperial guard’s command system- they aren’t actually able to command a force on their own authority. who is she serving under and why the heckies is she loitering on an inquistorial ship instead of someone that can actually speak for the command of the regiment?

also where were they pulled FROM? there’s still the main front of the conflict where they’re fighting an overland battle at the edge of the hive to keep the 6th’s main force contained and out of the rest of the hive, this margrave puffhead’s not pulling forces from the front to wriggle his tiny gherkin into grendyl’s operations when he has no authority to do so?

There’s also a conversation in person about a Knight commander who is attached to the Moebians. So, there’s at least one Knight squadron tearing things up on the surface, and something that needs Knights to tear up down there too.

Blame the success of Gaunt’s Ghosts. Great set of books but now colonel-comissars are normalised.

haha, wait really? Thats absolutely insane :joy: I would like to think that anyone doing writing for Darktide has enough knowledge to know that Commissars were political officers in real life, involved with propaganda and morale. I’d hope that the name might give away similar information about the 41st millenium version.

I read a novel recently, about the surviving forces who limped away from the Fall of Cadia. In that story, a Commissar gets trigger happy at the evacuation zones (he didn’t think he was obviously), and this results in him being brought before the actual commander. The guy realises the situation was dire, but still despises the Commissar for what they did to his men, so he gives him command of a penal regiment. The commissar himself is so surprised and grateful he’s virtually speechless. And it was a very effective way of keeping the Commissar away from the dwindling Cadian survivors. (oh it ended badly btw. Chaos. Big fight. Everyone died. Ahhh, 40k)

Please bring back Moebian horde modifier

Pretty please with sugar and a cherry and some gibbets on top

Easily the most fun I’ve had in ages in DT. And now I feel less compelled to play without them. I literally didn’t play anything other than that modifier the entire time it was live.

Cadia stands by Justin D Hill? Read it as well - not my favourite. Especially that scene - since Cadians are depicted as tough, proud and competent warriors no way that commissar behaved like that and lived to tell the tale…

One aspect I love about the Caine novels by Sandy Mitchell as he always fears that to harsh disciplinary enforcement would make a veteran infantry regiment a very dangerous place for him.

I also love the interaction between the 88th Cadian Mechanized and their commissar in Cadian Blood by Aaron Dembsky Bowden.

They’re tough etc but they’re not Catachans
