- Speed up switching to Rippers in general
- Remove the weird delay which prevents you from shooting after switching to a Ripper Gun. It’s supposed to be a CQC weapon for heavy melee users.
I main Ripper and generally think its doing its job for my purpose, i.e. chaff clear/suppression specializing in holding chokes.
Do you mean the animation of the Ogryn flipping out the brace to fire before aiming, which part specifically? I tend to overcome this by blind firing and then bracing once I get room to aim.
No, it’s hard to describe, but what happens is after I switch to Ripper Gun I cannot instantly start shooting. It might be because I’m pressing sprint or some other button at the same time. I press fire with no bracing just after I switch, and nothing happens. Really annoying.
Right, I just double checked it. There is a delay when I switch to Ripper and try to fire while still holding Shift (sprint in my case). Delay to fire when standing still is smaller.
Interesting, I haven’t played in a while, but ill try and focus in on this delay. I do know u can cut off the burst fire into a single shot by switching to melee, if you want 1 bullet. (back when ammo cap was poor this blindfire was nice)
Ripper use to be able to snipe the snipers at an extreme cost to ammo, (basically the clip) but it got the job done if no one had an angle. Maybe the delay was caused by all the changes it went through? I sometimes melee with the gun first and then blind fire as well as it does punch hard.
Because Ogryn has Barge (knock/stagger small ones) I tend to dodge into stuff, then turn back to shoot since there is a setup. Weird V2 movement stuff that I still find fun. So happy they gave Ogryn Barge, or else this class would truly be in the pits of the Warp.
The mk V Ripper should be able to ping a sniper at any conceivable range in 1-2 shots (by interrupting bursts).
Kind of not important info anymore, imo, when you can bring a kickback, stubber, or just throw a rock/box at the problem.
… If I’m really feeling like some Ripper gameplay, I usually bring the mk II with flechette on it and accept if I have to deal with a sniper, I’m dealing with everything in front of me at the same time. Tends to works alright. Mk V and VI haven’t been feeling right to me.
I never really tried ripper guns until recently (one to use can opener so I can bring my knife) and another for A.A’s build.
But here at the time mark I added, you can see him doing the quick swap and shoot that you can use for quick stunning without wasting more ammo in the burst. And I can reproduce this where it feels fast?
Thanks I haven’t seen this, but the OG shovel is my fav Ogryn weapon next to GG and Rippers, so I’m going to check out whatever Mr A cooked something interesting. Actually nvm I have seen this

interesting to see someone still maining the ripper. every ogryn had it + bull butcher 3 back in 2023, then these weapons got power crept out of use for most players. i haven’t used the ripper in ages, mostly because it reloads slowly and then has this delay, plus low ammo efficiency.
could be interesting for softening up armor with can opener, but then, instead of switching between ripper and club or pickaxe it’s easier to just hit them again. cavalcade + flechette, dunno, ogryn has low crit chance. maybe just +power with blaze away and fire frenzy is better?
I really like Rippers as a concept. From pure power, toughness regen, to crit / bleed I must have tried it all. Its good fun really. Cavalcade + Frechette + Massacre talent gives you probably the best bleed Ripper set up. I like it with M II for that wider spread. Mk VI could still use some help, it just feels underwhelming.
Yea, it doesn’t hold a candle to anything with armor but a headshot stab does finish off a surprising amount of specials/elites already wounded. It’s great to just push back everything and very consistent with staggering pox bursters along with trappers, you can blind fire knock any special over outside mutant.
The main draw for me is being able to basically full auto an Ogryn-sized shotgun into a horde then switch to melee wand to clean up the armor.
