Seems like more Mortis Trials stuff by the gates and the psychic writing on the walls. So nothing in the real world, just more holodeck stuff, I guess?
Interestingly, there is a Scab carrying a plasma gun in the back of the group with a special “picklehaube”-type helmet. Might be that Scab sergeant unit I’ve been hoping for for forever? Hopefully he’s got either a power sword or chainsword too. And hopefully the Dregs get a priest unit for their roster at the same time.
I hope the plasma gun unit makes it into the real world at least.
It’d be fairly underwhelming if any new unit was limited to our psychic VR laser-tag game mode.
Sure, I’d expect him to be an elite by his looks. We’ll have to see if he’s a sergeant bolstering type of unit or just a weapon specialist. In normal IG squads, plasma is typically the job of a specialist. Sergeants usually have boltguns if not just lasguns. But who knows how the 6th does things.
Less than thirty seconds of content, mostly default guys and a couple shots of a map, released on a Saturday after two days of the forums and most of Steam dunking on FS for not providing anything substantial…
Is this a damage control thing? Did they take a clip from something else they were working on and package it to mollify us?
But yeah this looks to be a Mortis update. I don’t care for that mode.
There’s something there with Mortis Trials, although I don’t love it in its current state. Glad to see it’s getting some attention though, but I hope there’s more to this update than just Trials and balance!
while it’s 80% “apples and oranges”, the 20% where there’s similarities, space marine 2 does its thing with siege mode better I must say.
both are tiny boxes if you think about it but
a) at least there its a challenging box that puts you to the test and
b) it’s a series of boxes that feel stringent enough to make the illusion of a bigger whole believable.
at first I thought mortis was psykanium with puppets that actually move and do damage and after the mandatory number of runs (well several attempts before actually) to get the trinket, it got quite stale.
getting the imba buffs on top of the already powerful characters in a map the size of a shoe box isn’t very incentive to repeat on end.
and yes the sm2 take is only slightly better with its 2 factions and 3 different stages, but at least it keeps you on your toes instead of corner camping and alley blocking, which in 99%of the time did the meat grinder trick in mortis.
so yeah, seeing effort being put in there instead of “other” areas isn’t inducing any “vorfreude”
I do think it’s funny. I have not played Chaos Wastes but as I recall it was ‘procedural map generation go brrr’?
And despite. Y’know. Building maps off of stitching together chunks of map as how they set up their initial missions, and having randomized stuff within those maps as something they know how to do, AND having the experience of making randomized maps overall…
They just made 2 tiny box arenas that are identical every playthrough and that spit out enemies from various holes in waves.
I’ll leave the pic big so it can be seen better. It seems we may be getting that new vet weapon after all. Possible power sabre? Or just a new power sword skin? Time will tell . . .
oh well, i just realized i need 1 more memory fragment from zola and 1 from morrow for completion… are those getting played randomly?
i think the best use for mortis is getting some penances without bothering other players in actual missions.
