My New Player Experience

Played VT1 and 2. Didn’t think my PC could run Darktide but went ahead and bought it since it was on sale. I was able to get it to run pretty well considering. I am about 60ish hours now.

That being said, I feel the gameplay is great, but the story and cosmetic systems are pretty abysmal. I would suggest adding a linear campaign mode with a sequential line of events because the missions I ended up doing early on didn’t really feel like it fit thematically.

The cosmetics system is pretty terrible too. I like the idea of the penance system, but having just checked out zealot, why is there a penance locked behind private mode? Speaking on that, how come we can’t play private mode solo, especially considering the penances that require private mode. The penances also don’t really seem to reflect the game systems you have designed in some cases. Shouldn’t the goals in game align with the systems the game excels at, like teamwork? Coherency is pushed but I don’t see any penances that reward that? Feels like the ball was dropped when designed some of those penances. I would suggest a rework and expansion, again, with teamwork as the primary drive behind design.

Back to cosmetics, you seem to only be able to buy two different weapon skins with in-game currency. Seems pointless to even add that option if there aren’t any options? Maybe be better to tie those cosmetics to weapon mastery instead?

Paid cosmetics would be something to talk about but the amount I have seen is extremely limited as I have only seen one rotation. Especially compared to VT2. I was interested in buying the Krieg cosmetics and found out they are on a rotating two week basis. Thing is, I’ll just forget about it when I move onto my next game. I would say the limited access to cosmetics only hurts the company in selling their product. I have seen people mention FOMO, but the only ones that are missing out is the developer ultimately. Might want to rethink the store rotation thing.

Lot of demands for a better system with possibility to recolor, add or remove accessories etc…

Ask Fatshark… it seems someone made a complain about this (not on this forum) and since that they restricted them behind a private game.

There’s one for Ogryn

They could also introduce a better cosmetic system with the possibility to buy colors:

  • simple colors for ordos
  • premium colors with aquilas

Rotation should go. Prices are too high also.
Fatshark (or the company behind) have introduced a phone model. High prices, few content.

There’s a section dedicated to team related penances, including coherency.

Some of the other points are valid though.

I agree with everything here.

While I would agree this would’ve been nice on launch, imo it shouldn’t be worked on now, it would be mostly wasted effort.

FS tries to push coherency, but the more you learn about the game the more it becomes evident it’s a pretty dead mechanic.

And yes the cosmetic system is truly terrible, I think 99% of people would agree with that.

Maybe a bit of historic perspective:
The game launched with barely any cosmetics, and very few pennances. Some of those, like the Psyker’s “deal 100% 90% 50% damage to a monstrosity with brain burst rupture” (it was progressively lessened) were considered harmful by parts of the community. Understandably so.
Thus, Fatshark created new pennances, and hid some of the old ones in private mode so as to not just remove them.
The current pennance system with actually decent rewards came later, and the Masteries you mention aren’t even a month old.
Most everyone agrees that the system, shall we say, has room for improvement, but to be fair the game did come a long way.
Which may tell you in what state it started.
