I, too, would like to see a long term solution to this. The current way cosmetics have been implemented seems to be very much anti-customer.

If all models were always available And if we could buy/unlock colors and materials to apply to the cosmetics… Then i would be fine with them selling models with a specific set of colors/materials/pattern on a rotation. Basically a rotation for what is on discount. You can always buy the cosmeti…
