Human-sized shield enemies coming to Darktide

There is a rumor that the second city has been captured by genestealer

Fine with me, but only if we get Shield and Ranged Weapons Combo for Guardsmen and Ogryn aswell!

No one cares as they will just be blasted to smithereens by ranged weaponry. Shields are only a mechanic when you are on a zealot.

if it’s like Vermintide 2 with shielded stormvermin, pushing them twice in a row opens them up like a bullwark

if only we actually got a 2nd chapter in the form of actual missions. imagine how nicely the story would’ve been moved along by now and how many cool maps and bosses there would be if that’s where their focus went

Make it harder to just cleave through the chaff. That’s how it worked in Vermintide 2. Even if a small horde had some man-sized shielded enemies, it essentially made you unable to just bully the chaff.

I hope that both these new enemies and the balance changes that’ll come with the new update will make the chaff an actual threat rather than a nonexistent enemy.

More enemy types are welcome, but how would they prevent shield enemies from just making equipment variety worse?

If they work like their Vermintide equivalents then the: Crucis ThunderHammer, Eviscerators, Autoguns, Autopistol and the Twin-Linked Heavy Stubbers, all come to mind as weapons that are going to be substantially worse even if the shields are breakable.

Hopefully there are balance changes with the update to compensate weapons for this or give them bonuses against shields where appropriate, but wouldn’t more shields just make the plasmagun and the Inferno Staff dominate even harder thanks to them ignoring shields entirely?

Great hammers in VT2 were just fine against shielded infantry cuz one light attack is all it took to break their shield and the heavy attack stagger cleave could go through one or two of them IIRC. I imagine that the autopistol will do good too since it’s a full auto gun with high stagger power. The other weapons, I don’t know. It’s hard to picture how they would interact with shield enemies, would 200% extra cleave be good or not? Will suppression affect shield enemies in a way that’s useful?

The cleave of the heavy attacks of Greathammer from Vermintide 2 was way more powerful than the Thunderhammer’s cleave of its heavy attack. There’s a difference in the enemy hit mass between the two games, and it shows.

For instance, the Greathammer of Vermintide 2 could easily cleave through a Mauler and it knocked them on the ground, but in Darktide, the Maulers stop the heavy attacks of the Thunderhammer with their bodies.

Basically, we’ll have to see how it plays out. I certainly wouldn’t want any further buffs to things like the Thunderhammer’s special attack, as it already deletes bosses without even trying to min-max anything. I want bosses to be a threat like they were in Vermintide 2. So if anything, its cleave and stagger power could be buffed.

Eviscerator would be very on theme to be really good into shield enemies imo. Likewise with chainaxes, maybe chainswords too?

like how sick would it be do a special heavy rev with the evisc and permanently ruin a bulwarks shield?

i only hope that shield enemies will counter some of the aoe dot spam a bit. and that they don’t counterbuff psyker to compensate again

plus armored rats with the metal shield was possible to double push to stagger them temporarily and being able to attack them. i assume their shields will be made of metal too and will have some sort of stagger mechanic, which i hope is like a double push just to have variety in gameplay mechanic.

I, for one, am expecting unique voicelines calling these enemies out. I loved them in Vermintide 2 and I’m sure I’ll love it in Darktide.

"Look! A raki thinks it can use a shield!"

Scriers Gaze: added an aura that causes shielded enemies to lower shields from the awe of the demi-god walking amongst them.

Scrier’s Gaze will also now cause every enemy who sees the Psyker using the ability to commit hara-kiri by blowing their brains out.
