How To Nerf Plasma Gun

by all means, lets

PG with 80% ammo is 135/135 charges divided by 3 assuming you only use standard attacks, would be 45/45

Zarona has fixed number of 5/52 shots

now all the pickups in the map and survivalist only take your reserve into account to calculate the amount of ammo you get

how long do you think that 33 shots advantage Plasma Gun gets when the match start last?, 10 minutes in the game and you have already squandered it

Fully Loaded is a big deal breaker too, that 25% only applies to reserve aswell

it would be 168/3 56 shots for PG against the 65 of Zarona, and that difference protrude for all the match

every pickup or survivalist proc affect Zarona at 93% and PG only at 55% with Fully Loaded

91% and 50% without Fully loaded

you are basically wasting half of the ammo pickups compared to if you pick that tin up with revolver

you get 10 shots out of a tin with revolver, and 8.6666 shots with plasma gun

then of course, when enemies line up just fine you can get prime efficency with PG, but all you are doing is stealing kills to the flamer dude, PG is just a less functional flamer

your frag grenades can fill the role just fine, and then your melee can finish off the remaining elites

furthermore i’d rather have a ranged weapon that’s not wasteful when it comes to deal with singular shooters or threats, it happened me so often that i’m trying to deal with basic shooters or even snipers, but my PG strikes their limb and doesn’t oneshot them (with havoc buffs), making me waste 6 charges, where if i bring a bolter its much easier to avoid their hands holding their weapons due to the small bullet hitbox, and missing a bolter shot is not that wasteful either

at the same time when enemies line up its bliss with bolter aswell, because you can just full auto and make the kill feed go crazy, its not as good as plasma of course, but to each one its own

almost infinite hit cleave

yes and?

So better ammo conservation, not worst, which is why “I can’t take him seriously.”

If I pick plasma it’s to compliment my build so not gun everything down just priority targets or a WS proc.

If I wanted to gun all map I would pick the higher sustain range of course but plasma is much better at ammo conservation than the worst plus some.

And I’m just sitting here wondering how you run out of ammo with either of these guns (outside of Havoc I guess). Are ya’ll shooting every single minor poxwalker you see?

to be fair, it is a rarity to run out of ammo with essentially any of the guns while running survivalist veteran. however if you’re basically the only person dealing with specialists & elites, plasma gun can suck up ammo like it’s a red light district worker on the weekend, which can be incredibly annoying for everyone else on the team if you’re not being mindful of it (which we’re all guilty of occasionally, let’s be real), which gets exacerbated extremely badly with the fact that a lot of people you’ll see running plasma gun for the “it deletes specialists & elites” utility typically aren’t super competent in melee combat either. does this scenario happen all the time? no. definitely not. but plasmagun, all things considered is in a relatively healthy spot & competes in about the same ballpark as other weapons veteran has access to that do the same thing.

but at the end of the day the only real benefit it’s providing is the cleave value & anti-bulwark capability. pretty much everything else the plasmagun can do can be done just as well, or better by the other weapons i mentioned earlier.

It doesn’t need nerf.

Like grenades and shouts?

I think the best nerf would be to reduce the projectile size drastically and watch 80% of vet players miss their shots

I’d also want charge to splash but also able to FF self if you splash too close… like plasma guns typically do.

Also just going to leave this here hopefully doesn’t repeat like last time….

real and true

The day they nerf my Ogryn Shotgun is the day I become a monk far from all modern amenities.

You can’t even overheat unless you try a charged shot at 100% =/ training wheels

While this is not entirely untrue, you’re not taking into account the skill requirement which should always be a concern when balancing. If the Plasma Gun is only a bit (it’s not just a bit) better than other weapons on eg. Damnation, but unlike other weapons it requires very little skill to achieve this performance where those other weapons will never be half as good in the hands of a newbie player then it is already an issue.
Balancing around skill requirement is an undisputed necessity if you want the game to be healthy, since allowing top performance without high skill is a form of power creep.

I will disagree a little.
It is not a bit better. It is clearly a lot better.

And skill… without mod, yes it needs a lot of skill when you don’t have a precise crosshair. With mods… absolutely true. You aim, you kill everything.
However, the PG has one thing that can stop it. A crusher. A 15 meters wall won’t, but a crusher yes… totally logical, isn’t it?

15 centimeters walls if those were the one you addressed do stop plasma shots, especially in the newer maps most walls stop plasma shots

i still try every wall to see if it goes trough or not when i play plasma gun, and there are not many that works

there are not many walls that bolter can’t penetrate that plasma gun can

The “a bit” part was meant to be somewhat ironic. I should have emphasized it more.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the “nerf-train” hasn’t even left the station yet, no? Last updates were almost entirely buffs, and the most blatant offenders such as:

  • Duelling Sword
  • Voice of Command
  • Infernus Staff
  • Plasma Gun
  • Staff primary spam (usually Electrokinetic)
  • Venting Shriek (overstacking Soulblaze)
  • Until Death + Holy Revenant
  • Enduring Faith

have not been touched, which is why the game has devolved into a glorified walking simulator outside of Auric Maelstrom / Havoc.

So perhaps we should finally start the “nerf-train”, so that all the people taking a vocal stance against it can finally have something more than a self-constructed effigy to fight.
