So I kinda looking to upgrade beacuse this was the year my trusty 1080ti started to show it’s age and I wanna play games like dragons dogma 2 and the new allan wake game.
Anyhow 7800xt are dirt cheap now and kinda a sweetspot for 1440p
a lot of VRAM and I don’t super care for RT.
But have seen som tech-issues with AMD gpu’s and this game.
Anyone with the same card that can tell your experience?
There were some hitches before (random crashes on map transitions usually) that you could mitigate with downclocking same as with HD2 on launch (playing at 3440x1440 with everything at max, RT low, on a 7900xtx) but haven’t even had to do that after the late feb AMD HD2 driver update.
Seems HD2 and Darktide sharing (discontinued) engines and HD2 blowing up a bit was a net benefit for darktide players that use AMD.
I did have some wonky issues going from Nvidia to AMD with darktide specifically though, which was solved by just wiping the presets folder (%appdata% darktide folder) and forcing the game to make a new config.
Before i did that i had absolutely horrid performance and load times which made sense once i checked the actual config file and realized despite launcher settings the game was still trying to run with DLSS and high RT, despite it being turned off in launcher/ingame via menu.
I also couldn’t turn on AA ingame (button was greyed out) and it had utterly terrible shader loading stutter as it stated DLSS was running even when/if it was set to native/FSR/Xess and kept telling me to turn off dlss/switch to FSR/native to enable AA even when those options were enabled.
Wiping the appdata folder fixed all that and the game performed normally/properly(?) past that point.
I play Dragon’s dogma 2 at the same res (native) and it works fine, game engine issues with towns and NPCs nonwithstanding (not an amd specific issue), haven’t played alan wake 2 so no clue there.
Again though, 7900xtx rather than 7800 but outside of straight output ability the compatability (and potential issues) it should be the same, and obviously always run DDU or something similar in safe mode before swapping cards to avoid hilarious post-install issues in any game.
