MkII stabstab best stabstab
100% this. There are multiple other weapons that do its job better, feel nicer to use and have none of the drawbacks.
Weapons where the downsides are before you fire/attack (pull out time, charge time, bad sights, activation, etc.) are all outmatched by weapons where the downsides occur after you fire (recoil, reload time, recovery time, etc.). The raw numbers for damage may be better (most of the time it isnāt) but they just feel horrible to use.
Wish they would just skinswap it with the bolt pistol.
That so? And what other weapon has enough ammo and rate of fire to be fired freely at smaller enemies and still can punch through the armor of larger enemies? And has a usable melee attack so that you very seldom have to switch to melee weapon?
You like it or you donāt - but it fills a niche no other weapin does.
What niche? The one for guns that cant reliably 1-hit kill specials on damnation or above?
The niche where its slower to equip and get a shot on target than pretty much every other gun.
The niche where it does less dps than multiple other guns in the same category?
itās only redeeming quality is the bayonet. which it only needs as its so slow to swap guns.
This is the only accurate take on this thread full of 80h playtime jokers.
The guns that are so versatile you can almost use it the whole match non stop. If that niche isnāt for you - great thatās why itās called a niche. It isnāt for everyone.
If you get rid of the slow draw time, helbore outclasses every other precision rifle. Higher cleave, damage per shot and dps overall, almost complete suppression immunity for free, and best ammo economy when you factor in surgical/shock trooper. If all these fast draw, high damage weapons are meta, great, the people using them can be the ones to take out a special in a pinch but can those weapons be fired the entire match while grabbing a small handful of ammo tins? No they cannot. The sights suck but just use the mod that lets you equip reflex sights.
Issue with revolver is rending on crit. Helbores are mostly fine but mk3s melee is trash. The sights are awful but this is why i have the customisation mod
Modding a proper sight on them certainly improves them, but if they have a special feature (charge up) and the gun declared the best of the bunch by most is the run that makes that feature the least noticable, then things arenāt great.
I wish the special would not be an attack, but instead switch the weapon to melee mode. Itās a perfectly viable melee weapon (minus the short dodges), but my thumb tends to get numb.
For the ranged, itās actually good if you can somehow see what youāre aiming at, but only the mk2 is fast enough for it to matter - and see above on that.
Theyāre all usable and were probably the best 3 set up ranged weapons for variety and usefulness. Its also quite a far leap in logic to claim that everything south of the revolver/plasma/kickback is good in the current game. I mean what weapons are avaliable that cleave, ADS and deal with all target types. The list is small. The notion that they need huge buffs is pretty out of scope with actual performance. I donāt routinely get better damage with like anything else beyond the above or Columnus which is possibly on the dev radar because like 20k boss damage a magazine on a psyker.
I tried to make it work with multiple builds revolving around different keystones.
The weapon has the clunkiness of the bolter or plasma gun, while having much less hitting power.
For me, the drawbacks:
- Atrocious sight
- Low drawing speed
- Low bodyshot damage coupled with mediocre RoF
Just make me gravitate towards other, more reliable and easier to use weapons.
The bayonet charges are fun though!
The revolver is over powered atm, the rending isnāt the main problem though it does contribute. IMHO itās the range, itās a better sniper than the snipers. Its a snub nose revolver, itās designed for close quarters combat. A simple fix would be to add in ranged damage drop off. Anything more than 5-10m away and you suffer from rapid damage fall off. It keeps the gun relevant if you want a close quarters weapon that can snap quick hard hitting shots, but then gives it a big penalty outside of that very specific use case. Leaves a gap for the plasma gun and bolter to fill.
Yeah, given the tight engagement range of darktide it really should start seeing damage dropoff outside of maybe 20-25 meters⦠Even that may be far given most of what we encounter is between 10-20 meters out typically, but⦠yeah.
Revolver is really the only thing Iām for hitting with something like thisā¦
Maybe Brauto since the clear intent of a braced weapon is mostly suppression (at least to me, given their lack of precision and typically short engagement range-- which veterans are able to offset aggressively), them being exceptionally effective in particular Vet builds makes for pretty mindless play that usually ends up being piloted by an equally brainless player who inevitably just wants to see their name in the killfeed.
i think they could do with a small buff of +20-25 base damage so they are more above that blue lasgun with the weird stock that dose a max of 160 base damage ( i dont know the name of it).
So helbore would make a primary attack damage of 170-185 instead of being around 160/165 damage BUT they will keep the charged attack damage the same as they are now.
maybe a small speed buff for the animation when you switch to the gun aswell.
Yeah the whole charging handle lever animation is just⦠bad. On reload? Sure! On EQUIP? Kill it.
So I dug up my old Mk3 andā¦I can see the complaints, but Iām not sure theyāre entirely justified in proclaiming this gun ātrashā.
Even with a non-deadshot build I was able to do pretty well in regular Damnation, and Iām not a very good vet player with aim. The Mk3 bayonet is clunky and uncharged shots are generally trash, but it charges so fast this doesnāt really affect it. Paired with a good horde-clearing melee and frag grenades and itās nowhere near āthe worst Helboreā imo - especially since youāll clear out Crushers pretty efficiently.
Heck, the sight is better than it originally was too.
Speed up the equip and give it a tiny damage boost to snowball off and itāll be Auric ready.
