Are you still basing this on the pre 13 profile? Before it’s crit damage got normalized across armor types?
Honestly I haven’t touched surge staff much at all since path 13 where it was speccd for crit.
Idk then, Surge is still incredibly strong and is not reliant at Crits anymore although they do still help. If you get an Unarmored + Maniac damage surge with Nexus and Flurry you can chew elites and specialists up like no ones business. I was apprehensive of the Surge staff changes, and while I still would have preferred them just make a different Surge staff variant the new one is still incredibly strong and more importantly fun to use.
Why do you use Smite with Surge? I get it seems cool with the whole “lightning lord” aesthetic but in most cases where you would use Smite, you should be using Surge instead. I find that Brain Burst with Kinetic Flayer is much better with the Surge staff and makes it more deadly and consistent.
Two reasons. I shall answer you:
Yes. This is absolutely a thing for me. BUT I have also noticed that when the game spawns a lot of crushers most teams don’t know what to do and wipe. And since surge is basically a single target dmg staff, my solution was to use smite to hold them in place. Alternatively I use trauma for the same reason (and the rending ofc).
And the sencond reason is that I haven’t thought about this. I’ll give it a try!
I tried it for a bit, using assail to deal with trash and hordes and surge for heavies. But it just didn’t seem like it was as good as void strike. I only used it a couple times before focusing all in on void. Maybe I will go back to it if patch notes change again.
Remember when patch 13 dropped Void was ludicrously OP and in some aspects still kind of is. It’s one of those weapons where while it probably isn’t the best for the job it is incredibly fun, at least for me, to use and can still do amazing with. I prefer it with Kinetic Flayer Brain Burst and just use an Illisi for horde clear which is a very smooth experience, although I might be biased because I don’t like the Psyker blitzs that much. I would reccomend giving it a second chance. It’s not going to change your perspective of psyker but it can come in clutch, especially with it’s relatively ease of use letting you switch between engagements and targets incredibly smoothly.
That is a reasonable enough reason. I’m lucky enough to have a group of people I can consistently play with that are good at the game, but for keeping PUBs alive it seems like a great choice.
The dopamine rush of killing the main target with the Surge Staff and the secondary jump target with an auto procced brain burst is insane.
Where exactly does it mention that it is intended? You’ve mentioned this twice now, there’s no source or information. This is definitely NOT intended and will be fixed.
