I think bulwarks block should still break from damage rather than stagger potential alone, or have breakable shields like in VT2.
I think they also disproportionately annoy classes like zealot and to a lesser extent ogryn while they do not exist as an elite enemy to vets and psykers
I sense a classic hyper-density caused Bulwark sandwich in the OPs near past. I said it before, if Fatshark cannot resolve some of the core issues with the engine and/or design, they should have not introduced shield enemies to the game in the first place
This is very accurate and my main gripe with them. They feel like an enemy designed to be duelled with and this is actually almost fun to do (when they donāt get perma-staggered from behind by Gunners kek)⦠when thereās one or two of them. The problem is, on higher difficulties they will never be alone and either come in a horde, accompanied by other elites or just in groups of 3 or more - and at this point dealing with them without something to circumvent their shield (like hard CC, Plasma Gun, Krak grenades or AoE blasts) is simply tiresome.
Regular melee against Bulwarks - no hard CC, no shenanigans - feels tedious in the worst way possible. They immediately force me to stop playing aggressively unless I have passed the hard CC āskill checkā. No wonder people tend to gravitate towards Plasma Gun, Voice of Command and the like when dealing with stuff like Bulwarks without those things makes Darktide feel like WoW boss raid.
There is some kind of stagger system involved with his guard, but not all melee weapons can open it up. I think heavy attacks from any weapon should eventually stun the bulwark. Some heavy weapons can do it in a single attack (pickaxe). If you use thrust, you can even send the bulwark to the floor for hitting the shield while his stamina is still āfullā (some attacks can open the bulwark up after repeat hits, like thunderhammer lights or cleaver punches). But the pickaxe can also overhead over the shield so why bother doing thatā¦good emperor is the pickaxe ever broken.
