FS please help your Shade players

Would love for the stealth to have a stack of 3x back stab damage before you get revealed. That way you can stab 3 different enemies without revealing yourself until the third one but can only hit bosses once since that would be too op.

  • #1 Problem with Shade it’s her “role” and career “strength” vs the game itself.
Vermintide 2 requires for the group to be well… group up ! Tank(s) in front, damage behind or on the sides (like shde) And it doesn’t leave a lot of room for backstabbing, since it will force you to “break” the line and go behind the enemies. This will expose one self to damage because you are no longer “behind” the tanks.
Yes, you can dance around in small skirmishes and back stab folks, but these fights are irrelevant. Ofc i’m presenting the most basic scenarios.

  • #2 Shade doesn’t bring anything to the group. Her dps can be matched or outdone by pretty much anyone else, her range is the weakest of the 3 careers.

How to “fix” : Reduce Cooldown of the Ult by 20% or more first, it takes billion years for an ok ult.
Her main “thing” back stabbing needs to have “some” group effect. Like as an example : “Every time you back stab x times in a row, you party gains a 3% critical chance for 2 sec or so” Have it on a “internal” cool down so it wont be spamable.
As it was pointed out above as well : Make 3 first Hits not break the stealth and crit. There are many great ideas about how to improve shade. But my main would be to have a “group effect bonus” as one of her talent choices.

Shade still needs a change.

Disadvantages:

  1. Career ability has long cooldown. Killing a Chaos Warrior every few minutes is a waste as other classed don’t even need their ability for that. Damage on bosses is also capped, so what’s the point? I mainly kill hordes or help kill bosses while in stealth with her level 25 talent that ranged doesn’t break stealth ->Volley Crossbow
  2. Stealth breaks after the first attack and you’re most likely stuck behind enemy lines. The first attack shouldn’t break the stealth, so that you’re able to kill something and return to your team.
  3. Her first attack after stealth is not a critical hit, but it should be. Otherwise you cannot kill a Chaos Warrior on Legend consistently.
  4. 10 second ult is not a very long duration, so she should get a movement speed buff, maybe half of a Speed Potion ->50% to be able to engage a Special or Elite during a horde and return safely to your team with the first attack don’t breaking stealth.

Not only that, but enemies STILL ignore your stealth and charge for you.
Or hit you straight up the nano-second you come out of stealth, most of the time my swing isnt even finished and I get hit by an enemy.

The main problem with Shade is that Infiltrate has too much downtime with very little benefit. Its function is also heavily intruded upon and severely outperformed by Handmaiden’s Dash in combination with its 3 second stealth talent. Yes, Infiltrate has more than 3 times the duration but this doesn’t matter in practice versus Dash as the lower duration of Dash is completely mitigated by the skill being the most powerful repositioning tool in the game and having 1/6th the cooldown of Infiltrate. Dash can be used to engage, disengage, chase, escape, reposition AND can be used for clutch stealth revives. And it has 6 times the uptime. Every two minutes Shade gets to stealth for 10(15) seconds. During those two minutes Handmaiden can stealth for up to 18 seconds. Wtf.

Stealth Dash is everything the Shade wants and would make way more sense on her rather than Handmaiden. Shade wants to quickly zip in and out of combat with a small window to get in some backstabs, with as little downtime as possible. Stealth Dash fits the bill. It would also be a lot more balanced on Shade rather than Handmaiden as Handmaiden already has incredible defense through increased stamina regen and dodge distance. Stealth Dash on top of that makes her nigh unkillable as she can easily sustain for the time it takes Dash to come off cooldown.

The problem with Shade and Handmaiden is that Trueshot is too good for non-expert groups to run without.

A ton of your wipes are prevented by Trueshotting a special around a corner or through a wall. And when a silent hookrat grabs your boi and takes him down that alley, when that gas rat and blightstormer hitting you from that roof or next alley over, that rat gunner shooting you through the wall, Trushot helps so so much.

If you aren’t running Waystalker then you need a Huntsman (rare) or at least Pyromancer (less reliable) to get them crazy specials, or else likely suffer wipes to bullshit. What you need to do is argue for Fatshark to fix the dumb specials spawning in inaccessible locations, and nerf Trueshot at the same time to make it less risky to run groups without Waystalker/Pyro

Handmaiden is fine and nerfing Waystalker will not make Shade viable, it’s completely unrelated. Don’t know what’s with the hate-boner for Trueshot either, it’s really not as good as people make it out to be. I’m level 111 or 30+81, however you say it, with Kerillian and I have way more success with Handmaiden than Waystalker in Legend PuGs. Longbow Handmaiden with stealth Dash has a stronger kit for clutch sniping specials bar the occasional Blightstormer casting from the other side of the planet, but if that’s something that can only be dealt with reliably by Burning Head or Trueshot it shouldn’t be a thing in the first place.

Atm she only has 2 passives, while almost all other ones got 3-4. I think she need a passive that would make her never have argo unless she’s the last one standing, or allies are pretty far away, and second one being +10% MS. Also imo her ult needs to get cd similar(if not less) to a Trueshot, and add 25% MS to it, but reviving someone should break the invis. Because it feels like every time i try to kill some specials from invis someone just kills them in seconds with ranged while i march like a turle, and then i w8 1 year to use(waste) it again. I really only got to hit CW and bosses from it, and res a few people.

I think a passive that make her less obvious for mob aggro, would really help her a lot.
If you would reduce aggro generated by distance and dmg by half it would allow her to do backstab more easily. And also prevent her to be backstab when going for backstab x)

With 1.5 shade seems more in line with the others, she is weaker than slayer against elite and horde, but she is way better on bosses, her xbow can allow her to have a good elite and horde kill potential that she lack in melee.

Here is a post i made on the 1.5 forum, there is some tips for the OP to play shade
http://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/kerillian-shade/20844/7?u=kroma

I had a new funny idea:
Remove Infiltration.
New Career Skill:
Shadowstep:
Teleport behind your target and strike it with your melee weapon.
Hit is a critical, must kill a CW.
After the attack, stealth for 3 sec(without any buff)
Cooldown similar to Waystalker Skill

This could be super funny

I agree that she needs some sort of aggro dump ability so backstabs become a more central part of her gameplay. However, that presents a serious balancing headache, and probably a programming headache too. If enemies generally ignore her she becomes one of the strongest characters in the game, and one of the easiest to play. That’s no good.

Instead, a solution that occurred to me was giving her an aura, similar in size to the other character auras in the game (read: small as hell). If an ally is in her aura, rats will prefer attacking them instead of the Shade. This creates some interesting gameplay by allowing the Shade to stay close to a tank and letting them draw aggro so she can flank, but it doesn’t let her run away from the team and solo assassinate targets without pulling aggro as usual.

It’s interesting but this could make her an harder class to play. Think what could happen if you are near a Sienna
Right now, after patch 1.0.5, I’ve played some games in champion/legend and I think that she need a little speed boost while stealthed.
Secondary, my team need to know when I’m in stealth, a visual effect would be great

I like playing her, but I’ve come to the same shared conclusion displayed here, that at its core the shade concept is flawed and doesn’t apply to this game. A backstab mechanic is both impractical in a game where the good guys are extremely outnumbered and hazardous to use.

So I’ve come about the idea of shuffling a bit the elements of all of the 3 Kerillian carreers. Both waystalkers and Maiden aren’t in a bad spot but it could make all 3 carrers a bit more cohesive (and their role easier to get into for new elf players/

1 -> Give the health regen from the waystalker to the maiden. The maiden is the only “tank” class with only active tanking feature. Would make her easier to play, without changing too much her power in legend. Give the associated talents (save for ammo regen) to the maiden too and turn her into a tankish support all rounder.
2 -> Give the dodge bonus to the shade instead. Her new main passive becomes : a synchronized parry gives her a critical melee attack. Her active power stays the same but has a shorter duration and attacks don’t break it - or just reduce its duraction. Tweak the cooldown as needed. This makes her an anti elite/boss melee fighter without need to have super risky positionning; Make the backstab a talent instead.
3 -> Replace the regen aura of the Waystalker. Something like an inverted BH could be nice : a ranged kill grants her a melee crit. Encourages a style alternating between both fighting stances a bit more.

Changing the maiden or the waystalker is not needed, but I think the shade would really benefit from the dodge bonus and turn her concept into an agile fighter that lands big damaging strikes at valuable targets.

Shade is a beast. Doesn’t need a thing. Sometimes I actually feel bad about how good She is at everything. Her ability recharges very quickly, especially if you use Resourceful Combatant on your melee. Can one shot a CW frontally, no need to sneak behind. Give her a Concentration potion and She finishes off any boss in seconds. Her bow (longbow or Repeater CB) is good at killing specials and with glaive She can deal with shields and armours easily. With her active She can also pick teammates up undetected or get out of any trouble and strike whenever and wherever She wants. What else do you want? She’s a jack of all trades.

Check: Shade still useless

This is necroed so bad. Thread is pre-1.0.5.

he only buff shade need are 15 more ammo in the volley bow
