That combined with the 2 chaos wastes mods that were recently released (which already support this LAN mod btw) just shows, sooner or later we will be able to host our own game with the modifiers, maps, enemies of our choice.
Near future is bright for darktide despite the devs hellbent decision to keep the game as stale as possible.
I can’t understand why they won’t even acknowledge that it’s an overwhelming ask from the community.
I’ve said it before, way upstream, but it’s an instant fix to the perception that “FS is ridiculously slow with content” by adding them into the existing rotation, not even complete full choice.
Every new event announcement I see now has people asking for old modifiers back.
I’m a guy that tries to use logic and reason as best I can, and I’m left with no option other than contempt at this point. Also because I’m not allowed to say incompet ants for fear of…what, not being responded to even harder and upsetting some people?
It’s FOMO. That’s it, that’s the full extent of it.
Fatshark is fully committed, whether at the executive level or because their owners at Tencent have decreed it, to pushing FOMO, RNG, and other cheap ‘retention’ tactics. That’s why the store is the way it is, that’s why weapons are the way they are - they are addicted to time-limited slot machines as a gameplay concept.
They will not respond because frankly admitting the obvious is something that game companies refuse to do.
This would be a sound statement/train of thought if FS ever consistently communicated an event was even happening in any of the places people go to see news about the game.
I don’t think that’s a particular CM problem, either.
why are modifiers locked anyway?
is that for technical or financial reasons, perhaps splitting players over too many games so they can’t find each other, or would so many server instances cost too much?
most of us have bought this game to play what we want, when we want, not to get a random map with random modifiers, and if we don’t like, just wait for the next one.
Most benign theory I have is that developing the matchmaking side of things is prohibitive. I mean, the, uh, unique aspects of party finder paint a pretty sorry picture imo.
Providing a method for players to create custom maps, list them publicly/privately, and then manage server hosting on top of that simply may not light the fires of passion for the RoI’ers. Despite being incredibly desireable for the playerbase, and not exactly an arcane technology generally speaking (woOoOooo lobby browsers wooOooOoooo…).
It’s quite likely their own damn fault for adopting a live service model which penalizes amassing a dedicated long-term playerbase which is ironically part of what has sustained their games over the years. And they’ll get no sympathy from me, because of how hard they leaned into exploiting whales over encouraging repeat business from microtransactions in a sustainable manner. I delight in not spending money in their shop, as do others, when they could have had their cake and eaten it too by simply having a more respectful cosmetics system.
So yeah, what does people enjoying the game past a certain point actually net for FS’ bank accounts?
Under some of yous’s scenario of custom made missions, I can at least understand the argument about server slots since they are clearly putting in the bare minimum to keep the funny money flowing.
But, as I’ve said multiple times here, there is no excuse for why not a single new modifier has ever entered into the already existing modifier mechanic so they can appear in some way/combo with missions already on the board.
Keeping some, but not all, of them in Havoc is another layer of self own.
But to sunset and effectively delete so much actual good gameplay content when the perception is that they do very little very slowly is a moronic managerial or game design decision that is so out of the stratosphere I can’t fathom it with my tiny, smooth brain.
Other than retention FOMO to serve shareholders over players, of course; the true perils of the warp.
The funniest part is that unless there’s some exceptionally cursed backend work (possible, I remember how nobody could turn off the dogs modifier for months), putting modifiers into rotation would cost Fatshark literally nothing and add plenty.
You have the existing framework, you already made the modifiers function to begin with, and it’s not like your events are giving out Aquilas, so it costs you no ‘oh they might not pay us microtransaction money’ revenue…you literally have already paid the salaries of everyone who came up with this stuff, and rather than use it to fix the problems associated with you not being perceived as doing much work you just…throw your work in the bin???
Whatever tiny amount of money allegedly earned by FOMO cannot possibly be worth the ongoing problems caused by being seen as a do-nothing developer! Just let your work actually stay in the game, you already paid for it!
