The change to halve the flak armour mod because of flamer power has significant consequences for non-flamer burns. Psyker feats such as Wrack and Ruin or Ascendant Blaze, and Infernus Lasguns relied significantly on the power of burning dot and now fare much worse.
Flamethrowers have an innate problem. Most of the flamer dps comes from the stacked dot, and most people even dump the damage stat. Many players don’t even know the best way to play flamethrower is to do a short burst and then switch to melee weapon for power, also cutting ammo usage. This has led to the burn dot in general to be significantly nerfed.
As long as the scaling for Flamethrower and other dot sources is the same they can’t be balanced together. As a solution, make flamethrowers apply less total dot, but amplify direct damage against enemies on fire. This encourages a flamethrower to stay on target longer and allows a synergy for applying extra burning stacks.
Soulblaze really shouldn’t be affected by this, after all it comes from within, not from outside!
No one ever thought soulblaze was too good, if anything it’s generally pretty lackluster and usually replaced with something more effective in loadouts.
Flamer staff is not a problem.
It has downtime due to charge up and quelling. Because of this, it is extra important for the DoT to be strong on the staff.
