Flamer needs to re-reviewed

I use the flamer. Not all the time, cause flamer has a short range, so this mean that you must have a good reason to take it… mainly horde killer
But I use it, and this weapon is really well balanced.

Very well balanced.
Numbers tell another story.

But I’m not here to argue endlessly with you today, enjoy your evening

When it’s reasonable feedback, that’s one thing. What I call it Community Brigading is the feedback being often enough quite far off the mark. Usually hyperboled or manipulative, such as the isolated Psykarium videos as we discussed earlier.

And the adjustments often end up being quite whack, too far into one or the other direction.

More reasonable feedback more like. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon, so might as well go all or nothing.
The thing with balance patches is that it often ends up being a neverending cycle and the more things get rebalanced, the more they get out of balance.

Take Dota 2 for instance. That game has been “rebalanced” for it’s entire duration and it isn’t all that much better for it. I feel with Patch 13 a lot of things were in a good spot, but now it’s getting a bit whacky again.

Mayson, you’ve owned Darktide for an entire year.

And never owned a flamethrower. I’m not sure anyone should trust your opinion on this game anymore.

I see, so its a term you can adjust the meaning of on the fly. Sounds like bo**ocks to me, compadre.

Doesn’t matter.
Flamer isn’t in a great spot right now, in a game that has seen all damage values increase, and pace of the game pickup as well.

Well it’s not your call on what anyone else should think.
I collected it’s Blessings, sure. But I never play or use it. So “not in my possession” because I immediately melt it down. At the current time I do not possess a Flamer and I didn’t when it was at it’s peak. I played Combat Axe crit build with Headhunter Autogun or Autoshredder Pistol.
The Flamethrower-like weapons are not a compelling playstyle to me. Too immonile. Same for the Purgatus Staff. Crafted a few, melted it’s Blessings down. And I also hardly ever used the Beamstuff in VT2.
Why is that hard to imagine? This game has abundance of choice. The Autogun variants alone give you enough to cover most ranges.

How so?
When a group of people brigades or lobbies for one specific change and it happens, and this type of stuff happens over and over - How is that not brigading?
That’s what most balance discussions boil down to.
It would be more organic if it wasn’t so arbitrary, but what is often discussed here isn’t even the peak of overpowered gear combinations.

Take for instance the Assail discussions. They happened at the same time where Voidstrike Staff was at it’s peak. But hardly anyone here was talking about Voidstrike saff. Everyone seemed laserfocussed on Assail being too strong.
That is very odd, because even though Assail was very strong, it absolutely paled compared to Voidstrike Staff Surge builds.
When specific playstyles get lambasted and others ignored despite both being equally overtuned, that’s a strong indicator for some form of lobbying going on.

I freakin’ love flamethrowers though!!! Rule of cool all the way. I know melee weapons are supposed to be the horde clearers, but you can’t deny the effectiveness (or the sheer logic) of bringing a flamer to a poxwalker fight.

Regarding Zealot ult ranged weapons interactions, it’s gotta be either a bug or a feature – being some hidden yet extremely impactful mechanic doesn’t make sense to me. But I suppose that wouldn’t be the first time!!

And now for a lil’ drama:

“Because Fatshark did what we asked them to” – the sentiment that this community (specifically this forum) knows best is quite frankly ridiculous. I trust that they read and digest the posts, and then refine those ideas into their own vision of the game. If not, it’s their loss because there are some great ideas and feedback here.

Again, this is just ennui talking. People aren’t gonna respond to abuse, nor should they. Thread drama is a waste of everyone’s time – and I hope by perpetuating it a little it can lessen

What you call lobbying, I call people discussing and forwarding opinions for consideration. Anything coming from here, through community managers, is supposed to then be discussed by professional game designers. Its not like we’re sending the unfiltered forum to robots who then implement it haphazardly.

Mayson, with all love, don’t waste your brain and talents on such a crazy crusade.

Here is your standard issue M36 lasgun, flak vest and uplifting primer. Emperor protects.

(Seriously, you’re a sweet guy, no insults intended whatsoever.)

I think you’re giving too much credit to people. Assail is extremely visible and accessible by way of being a skill instead of a weapon. Compared to Brain Burst, the only ability Psykers had before patch 13, it came across as a huge power spike. The assertion that there’s a cabal of people suppressing voidstrike staff balance is… a little… dare I say… crazy

problem is its such a pita to be grouped with a flamer user even when it was apparently “worth taking” it was still a nightmare for the rest of the team.

That is a fair point.

Doesn’t have to be organized really. These things usually happen more in a snowball kind of way. One or two people start up a thread with an idea and then it goes from there.

I’m not saying there is this secret Discord Cabal of Balance Illuminatis hatching a grand plan on how to shuffle forum threads around. All with the intention of rebalancing Darktide into another game.
Although the idea is entertaining.

That’s actually true. I guess I projected my lack of faith onto everyone.

Alright, you’re right. I will drop it.

Good good. We’re safe for another week then.

Ok? That doesn’t change the fact that the Chaxe was horrible for a year, and they changed roughly what people wanted and it was better.

Even if they didn’t take anything from this forum, the community knew better than FS what the Chaxe needed at least initially.

I still stand by FS is bad at balancing. Poor Recon Lasguns and Thunder Hammers.

This is so ironic in the context of everything else you’ve said about fighting people giving simple balance feedback.

Yeah, the way I do it is I have a horde-clearing weapon and a single-target weapon (some weapons are good for both)

The system I use to choose my favourites: the class-exclusive melee weapon with the best special attack and the class-exclusive ranged weapon with the highest rate of fire.

Currently my favourite combos for each class are as follows:

Veteran:
Munitorum Mk III Power Sword
Lucius Mk II Helbore Lasgun

Zealot:
Tigrus Mk II Heavy Eviscerator
Artemia Mk III Purgation Flamer

Psyker:
Deimos Mk IV Blaze Force Sword
Rifthaven Mk III Purgatus Force Staff

Ogryn:
Brute-Brainer Mk XIX Latrine Shovel
Achlys Mk VII Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber

I agree that the flamer works fine for its intended purpose, it does need some QOL improvements, i think wield time and brace time are the actual issue. The range isn’t actually that bad depending on what you are comparing it to. If we are saying you need weapons to kill bombers then yes, but if you don’t have a teammate with any ability to deal with gunners(unlikely) and bombers then take knives. The problem is like you said, everything else got buffed so why not use the cleave melee instead for speed.

It needs stagger.
If it’s not doing damage, or low damage, it should be a weapon that keeps you safe, bar froma crusher/shieldgryn

Some kind of suppression mechanic would be nice.

They have that with terrifying barrage as a blessing

Adding it to flamer may be a nice way to make it more useful. Like, intrinsically adding it.
