It’s because players and devs have a different view on what the Thunderhammer is. Players want the Thunderhammer from Space Marine and lore. A big, slow weapon that obliterates everything it touches. The devs think the Thunderhammer is a primarly a crowd control weapon that knocks things around and can occasionally one-shot things.
I agree with everything said.
That differenciation with VT2 is extremely true.
With the combat knife you can bail out of a fight and outrun anything.
That was not possible in VT.
The lack of attack speed option also make the thunder hammer tricky to use.
Killing > Staggering
Self stun needs to go
There isnt a SINGLE meta weapon that has such an immobilising effect.
Attack Speed is increased by the Crowd Control stat. Its perfectly easy to use. Probably one of the easiest weapons once you get used to timing your swings, its basically head empty.
Killing > Staggering. But having the weapon have some weakness to counteract its ability to (no ammo limit) deal huge piles of damage to priority targets is a sensible approach. At least, unlike the ogryn power maul, it can 1tap most normal enemies on headshot and can even kill two whole groaners in a swing.
Self stun is fine, it’s basically irrelevant at 0.6s unless you’re just incredibly poor at positioning. The Deimos has such an immobilizing effect. It has a lengthy commit to deal big damage and it’s perfectly usable.
“Meta weapon” is loaded as hell considering we’re comparing a weapon with actual upsides and downsides to things like brainempty mundane axe kills everything with leftclick spam. The fault is Fatshark’s fundamentally failed melee weapon design, not the Thunder Hammer itself. Though I maintain the Crucius needs cleave on powered swings.
Once the hammer has all its buffs running and you’re throwing around heavy attacks it can hit pretty hard. I’d like to damage some more targets with those heavies, but I can work around it.
I never use light attacks with that thing. If hitting things in the head with the light attacks stunned elites more reliably I’d probably use it when dueling ragers or maulers.
The stun is unpopular, but if it remains I’d like to at least be able to stagger people in the area I swung my activated hammer. The experience of charging, waiting for 3 stacks of thrust on the heavy, connecting in sparks and flashes, getting one of the most impactful sound fx in the darktide melee audio repertoire, and then having one pox walker go flying who’s clipping inside the model of the crusher I’m aiming at… is always followed by the thought “I should have brought an axe”.
Agreed, the thunder hammer is just a one trick pony weapon
“Ooooo it does big dmg to single target with big boom sound effect!”
The new thunderhammer(ironhelm) has a very bad attack pattern imo aswell and isn’t good for its intended purpose(horde clearance)
Crusis TH charged attacks get stuck on poxwalker zombies when you are trying to swing at the boss 2 inches behind it, very frustrating aswell
