albeit it´s a minor/medium thing, it happens often enough to agitate me:
traversing the map, getting to close to a ladder and magnetically getting pulled towards it even if you didn´t look at it 90° or made any attempt to even get closer.
like a gravitation belt around a black hole, once inside the threshold the game prioritizes the vertical movement over the horizontal even if that´s were the action takes place and match defining interactions with the environment is made.
yes, i know there´s a ladder, yes i know it uses the age old method even half life pulled out its sleeve, swim up or downward and call it “climbing”
would it be that complicated to make ladders akin to door buttons aka press “use” to connect and jump to quick disengage ?
it´d feel much more natural and fluent and those minor mistakes wouldn´t lead to getting your pants pulled down by heretics behind you while admiring the rungs.
Hahaha yeah totally agree. I’ve been meaning to write this exact post for some time but kept forgetting. Ladders are cursed in this game. Always pressing jump to get off and everytime it surprises me that it didnt work
Also that sneaky ladder on the corner of the first walkway area on the new map has “hooked” me out of combat by accident quite a few times. Of course the enemies still hurt you on the ladder so it’s a real danger!
I would love if some work is done on ladders and carried over to any future titles. Ladders continue obstructing movement and interrupting player actions.
Not sure what’s the play here, should they be interactable only if you press the interact key or something else, but they keep getting in the way of me trying to jump, dodge of ledges etc.
If I were to add a suggestion to improve, maybe add the option to hotkey a ladder, so you have to press a button while near to grab and climb. This could be a solution for those who are magnetically frustrated with them.
