Dev Blog: Into the Maelstrom

Pretty obvious really. The blessings I want with the perks I want. And no locks to impede me. Not really a hard concept to grasp.

You are mostly right, but you are about to get an influx of 'learn to play X class!" and there’s some true to it, but there’s also a lot of truth that those classes aren’t as strong as they should be or suffer extremely in some manner.

IE, zealot can have 2 shield heals. Even without anything else, that’s top tier. Also can use all vet weapons except plasma gun. (and maybe recon laser?) I’ve seen a lot of zealots run like vets but with a shield heal instead of a highlight.

Psyker has been over nerfed several times. It can be quite strong with the right build, but then we return to the problems of constructing such a build. Force sword can still be good, but it used to have a really good push that I miss a great deal. Psyker used to be a master of staggers, and now that’s nerfed to heck.

Ogryn’s main problem is ranged. A skilled player can pull this off, and 'inspiring Barrage" makes a world of difference, which means you have a mandatory blessing for your build, which can be quite hard to get… especially for ripper guns. You can of course use a shield, but the shield is extremely boring. It’s powerful in a unit, but ever so boring. I usually take a knife.

Really, for me anyway, the Ogryn only has one good melee weapon, the Krourk vi cleaver, with the brunt basher (cable wrapped club) coming in as okay. The shield is clumsy and annoying, the other clubs and knives have wacky patterns, the powermaul is extra super annoying to use from pattern, turning off, the charge expiring, the slowdown to movement speed while applying charge, more harmful to your attitude from the irritation than use in a fight.

And there isn’t nearly enough Ogryn cover in the game. Ogryn can work, and a shield ogryn is welcome to others at any difficulty level as a team player, but I sure don’t want to be that guy.

At a minimum, Zealot needs more explaining, Psyker needs a buff on most things, and Ogryn needs some mechanics improvements.

The strengths and weaknesses of the class are clearly visible when you are left alone and you need to run to the teammates and pick them up.

Here are some situations.

  1. A crowd of dirty homeless people running at you.
All classes do the same here =)

  1. open space and a group of shooters at a distance (let’s take 3-4 machine gunners and 14 shooters)

here there are nuances.

A shooter with a bolter (like any other weapon) will ruin everyone without any problems

The zealot can get in trouble, you either need to use ranged weapons, but when taking damage, he cannot restore shields like a shooter by killing the elite or killing in the head. you can try to reduce the distance, it depends on the terrain and the range to the shooters, if there are grenades and the enemies are more or less crowded, this will ease the situation.

Ogryn will be sad if the enemy is far away and behind cover, it will be difficult and risky to run, but the ult can help, the shield will be useless.
You can try to suppress the shooters and get close, but it all depends on how close they are to each other. And what weapon do you have.

The psyker will be even sadder, he only has 1 staff that shoots further than 16-18m.
You can use a mind blast, but the problem is in time, if you kill for a long time, a wave / spawn of specials may begin

  1. there was a battle, from the enemies there were a couple of homeless people and a couple of destroyers \ Bullwarks

Shooter needs a bolter or plasma.
in such a situation, I am for a bolter with an ult to reload. You accelerate the damage of the stager of mobs and kill in 2-3 shots to the head of the crusher, in theory with the ult you can kill 3-4 in a row in a couple of seconds. the main thing here is not to panic and not hold down the fire button =)

The zealot will need a hammer and a flamethrower, throw a grenade, clear everyone with a flamethrower, finish off the crushers with a hammer.

The Ogryn can have problems because of the bullwarks and the fact that there is nothing to properly penetrate the crushers.
Can save a shotgun with the ā€œopenerā€ blessing (-armor) or a shovel with a strong hit and bonus damage with a stager (2 hits per full crusher) but it takes a little time because the ogreen is slow
it’s worse with bullwarks, I don’t know how to kill 2 bullwarks with support for an ogrin, you can try with an ult and throw it and quickly finish it off from the same shotgun. in principle, there are chances, but stressful =)

A psyker can only be saved by a traumatic (boom stick) staff

It turns out that the shooter with a bolter feels good in any conditions, against any enemies (plasma is less versatile, but also good)

The rest of the characters feel good at a distance from enemies up to 12-16 m
Problems appear at longer distances. a lot depends on the equipment, but their equipment is always a compromise, good against some passers against others.

I had one game
I’m an ogryn with 1 ogryn and 2 zealots, no ranged weapons. and we were squeezed by 2 snipers in an open area, we could not shoot them with anything. barely passed the moment

I play for all classes about the same time.
I play only on T5 and always a random game.
So I think I have a good experience, I won’t win a map in solo, but I play quite well.

(By the way, I saw a high-intensity T5 passage for a zealot on YouTube =) )

PS
I translated with Google and my English skills, there may be oddities =)

Always good to know when English isn’t the first language, but your English is far better then my (insert anything except English,) so it’s all well.

And it sounds like you’re very right, but your original post gave the idea you were new to the game because of the way you made your points. Those new to the game often do not take the importance of stagger into account. You clearly do, though it didn’t read like that in the first post.

You just have to love google translate.

Well, the horde is essentially a crowd of dirty homeless people with sticks who want to take away your food, or eat you and your teammates XD

And the dregs are the elite of the homeless crowd, they have weapons =)

Psyker with surge stuff on T5 Maelstrom is the most valuable party member, lol.

I’m not gonna agree here.
I saw twice what Equinox Trauma Staff can do if weiled by trained psyker on T5. THEY ARE BEASTS.
They purge so hard, even Zealot gets a ā€œHadronā€ (d<=>r).

Well i played some Maelstrom yesterday with waves of specials+waves of mutants or something, and it was like 15 mutants waves + some elites and surge psyker was controlling them easily

Well, yeah. They have their use not gonna lie. With hounds they are really helpful.

I don’t understand. How on earth would being able to use things like bleed blessings allow you to test a bleed build? Why would crit perks allow you to try out something crit focused?

This is all just so very confusing. Could you use smaller words?
