Agreed
Thatās great to hear. I felt much satisfied with myself when I refunded too:
Iām just not willing to do this whole song and dance with Fatshark where they fumble around for countless years in the dark. Until they finally figure things out then go restart all over at base one with new title.
Agreed. Very grindy.
You get money consistently, crafting resources if you explore the map and sometimes a goody at the end. I like this better than the VT2 lootbox where 90% of the rewards were useless.
Missions now have a tad more variety and donāt always play the same as in VT2. Run one āAgainst the grainā and youāve run them all.
Rewards could be better though.
The horrorā¦
Oh yeh itās so much worse than checks notes
Randomly obtain 5 legendary items, scrap them and then upgrade one weapon of choice.
Dude, 90 percent of the crafting system is LOCKED, do you understand that? You havenāt even gotten your hands on it and you try to judge it? Thatās like tasting the cherry on top and concluding that this is a terrible chocolate cake xD
Endgame crafting was meant for the crackheads anyway. The chase for the perfect build is no chase at all if the game stuffs perfect roll, legendary loot at you every second game.
So you keep coming back I presume. Being able to craft and upgrade any weapon would make the shop redundant, so whether theyāll add that feature post launch is questionable.
Didnāt you say you stuck with VT2? That āLessons learned from that game were forgotten?ā Well, this is exactly like VT2. Re-roll properties, re-roll traits etc.
So what. Should there be only easily achievable penances for people who have no friends to attempt the more difficult challenge? Should excellency be put on hold in celebration for mediocrity? Penances are fine. I wonāt achieve most of the hard ones and thatās ok. I honestly find it motivating. Aspire to become a servant worthy of the emperorās blessing.
Playing higher difficulties will alleviate that problem. Up and about trust lvl 24 you get a level up approximately every 2 missions, given that you complete some side missions and special conditions now and then. Quickplay/Malice was my go to. Heresy soon.
Wow, 10/10 post. I would give you all the accolades possible. You did what I didnāt have the patience or prose to do and you did it with dignity, aka not getting angry. Fatshark should pay you at least the purchase price of the game for that write up.
I was going to write a post exactly like this but you did it much better than I could have. Weāll written and very constructive thank you!
Malice is too hit or miss due to the fact low levels can join it almost immediately. With a pre made group I agree.
Yeah, there are many things that I agree with here. Not the levelling up part. The time it takes is just fine.
The score board is essential. There is no excuse for its omission. I also worry about the lack of mods as Fat Shark never fixed many essentials for VT2.
Weāll see how this goes, but the lack of mods does worry me.
Some good points here. The thing Iād really like to be shared between characters more than anything else is Melkās Contracts. If Iām switching between characters to play with different groups of friends, I stop making progress on one set of contracts and start on some different, separate ones. Chances of me completing a decent amount of them on either character and being able to afford anything in the shop feel pretty slim, so Iāve just been ignoring the shop.
For me itās not the pace of actual level from 1-30 so much as the pace of leveling up gear.
In Vermintide 2, you could get a level 30 character and 300 power items, and then switch to a new character and immediately roll up some new 300 power levels items for them and jump into champion difficulty. Plus all your trinkets were shared. Sure, you wouldnāt have all your talents unlocked yet, but you were still capable, especially once you got a temporary health talent at level 5. That chests were shared meant you could stockpile a bunch and then opening them all on a new character to give them a leg up. Thereās none of that here.
In VT2, there was a deliberate move made to normalize the XP awards across difficulty to discourage low level characters from jumping into higher difficulties to try and power level faster. Now it doesnāt matter, and if people want to power level at recruit difficulty so be it - at least they are dragging down teams legitimately trying to play at higher difficulties. Yet another lesson learned that was missed in Darktideā¦
Even as a consolidation just ditch the bonus for completing all five weekly missions and hand out more gold from each weekly item individually. At least then you donāt feel like youāre missing out on a bonus thatās nearly the size of all the individual rewards put together.
I like the scoreboard.
Thank you for the write up, Iām finding myself feeling many of these same issues and after playing 80 or so missions, itās getting more difficult to keep going.
The amount of RNG (shops, weeklies, emperor gifts *which I have not received one in my last 20 missions), barebones boring feats, awful map, anti-team penances, half of the available classes feel inherently broken, and still all with connection issues.
I want this game to be good, the combat feels great aside from the broken classes. But everything about the hub world, character creation, and character growth feels half-assed and unfun for the sake of padding for time.
To bad HEDGE the FATSHARK community manager said in a different thread that these posts right here is a main reason why some game devs donāt bother with forums. The community has been saying this post over and over and over and Fatshark refuses to listen to us. We will get a community post here next week that says something like āRejects! we see how the entire community is upset over our broken game, but this leads to heresay! We are hard at work perfecting our game getting ready for release! Pre-Order now!ā
I honestly donāt care about that stuff. I donāt care if our feedback gets thrown into the trash and promptly ignored. The developers are entitled to do that, itās their game that theyāre spending years working on. However, Iām entitled to refund then move on to other games; itās my money and time after all.
Venting my frustrations with fellow bros of like minded minds, who appreciate what the other have to say, is more than enough for me. Iāve gained satisfaction by seeing fellow Vermintide 2 bros echo the same sentiment that Iāve felt from playing Darktide. I appreciate that Iām not alone in feeling dissatisfied with Darktide even though I wanted to like the game. That there are countless others out there who share similar opinions of the game. They may have different ways of expressing it but the sentimentality is still there.
God bless you all.
I just dont want to grind out 4 sets of weekly missions just so i can have enough currency on each character in case a god roll weapon is in the requisitorium.
I also hate having to soft lock myself to a specific character to grind an appropriate amount of materials and money before i feel i can jump to another character, having multiple high level characters is going to be a pain in the ass. I would really like to just be able to play and level different characters without feeling like i am getting punished by a artificially created penalty for not sticking to one character.
Honestly, not having shared currency and materials is tone deaf and just removes so much character flexibility, and adds to much brainless grind. It is starting to feel like they are trying to pull a Bungie, and by that i mean: Adding unnecessary grind to make the lack of content less obvious while ramping up the game time statistic.
ALSO, this god awful shop, yeah sure, i love having to cycle through different characters every hour to see if the shop has anything in it because the mission rewards are 90% low tier garbage the very few times something actually drops, i sure love doing chores instead of playing.
Is this really what i want to spend my time on? A competent game play loop thats been hamstrung by questionable design decisions?
Edit:
I might sound a bit salty here, but jesus, they did all this work on VT2 QOL to make it better for players, but with Darktide it feels like they have taken two steps backwards without even taking the one step forward.
FWIW I went to school to become an architect/urban designer (which I am professionally) in a highly competitive business. One of the key things you learn both in school and in your on-going career - which are among the most important things to success - is learning how to receive and constructively interpret criticism. It acknowledging that criticism is not an attack on your personal ego. From there, itās also learning to listen to what your client and in many cases the public as your ācommunityā you are serving wants. Itās about understanding their values and designing a product (building, park, city district, etc) that both exemplifies what you want to achieve as a designer and meets the needs and expectations of the community.
If Fatshark doesnāt care about the community and just a wants to do their own thing, they should just dispense with these official forums. Got a bug report? Fill out the form. If they donāt want to hear what their client/community wants to say then why ask the questions? Why have a public beta test? Why even bother with the limited communications they do have?
This is a strange developer IMHO. They seem to just want to do their own thing while paying lip service to community engagement. The best the rest of us can do is either hang on for the ride or get off at the next stop.
Great writeup, maybe youāll grab the game later down the line on a sale. : (
What bothers me most is how little FS seems to have learned from their previous game. While VT2 had its fair share of randomness and grind, especially with loot, I always felt that with the combination of classes, careers and weapon types, there was enough for me to enjoy myself. Darktide already feels stale, and unnecessarily grindy to boot. They really need to come up with a better, more predictable loot system. Hate the lootboxes in VT2 all you want, at least you knew how to get emperor chests, and that these would typically yield items to salvage to put together a decent kit. With Darktide not even carrying over resources across careersā¦man thatās just needlessly cruel tbh. Unless they are planning to tie all this stuff to some planned monetization scheme ^^ Then it would just be mean and greedy
Personally, I am not gonna refund, but FS should be aware that what they are launching here is far from even a half-way complete game. Which after all these delays is really hard to excuse.
And to think that with 2 Tide games under their belt, where people also have shared their thoughts on how to make the previous games better, they would have made a great and complete 3rd Tide game, from the get-goā¦but no.
This happens also for the silly XP gain difference between the levels. Sedition gives you 1700 XPs, while Uprising just 100 more.
