Darktide Crashing on Launch

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - on Launch

Issue Description (Required):

Hello,

Trying to get back into Darktide after about a year away from the game, and I am having non-stop crashes on launch right after the shader cache is built. I have already tried the following solutions found in other topics that sounded similar:

-Verifying Steam Files
-Clearing App Data Folder
-Uninstall and Reinstall the game
-Update Nvidia Drivers
-Disable DLSS
-Reinstall C++ Redistributable

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

[Engine Error]: Access violation (0xc0000005) in build 85b5439d9820c31911721e141186c8a3127b92a2

The crash occurred in module ‘sl.common’.
The issue could also be related to the following modules found in the stack trace:
module ‘sl.dlss_g’.
module ‘sl.interposer’. This module is related to Nvidia streamline sdk. If this is a recurring issue disable features related to it and see if that helps.

Sorry to hear this @Umbra-Manis

The crash appears to be referencing NVIDIA, so it may be worth using a dedicated driver removal tool (e.g. Display Driver Uninstaller) to uninstall your GPU drivers and then to reinstall them clean.

Otherwise, it’s a tangent, but based on the access violation code ‘0xc0000005’, the error could also perhaps be triggered by conflicting software e.g. Anti-Virus.

I recommend ensuring appropriate exceptions are in place for Darktide both both Anti-Virus and Firewall.

Performing a ‘Selective Startup’ may help:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
  3. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
  4. Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
  5. Reboot your PC

Please let me know how you get on!

Have you DDU the drivers or just installed new ones over the existing drivers?

Your log says HAGS isn’t enable, is that correct? Can you check if its indeed disabled in Windows?

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (DirectX 12.1, 7948MB) Driver version: 59649 Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduler: false

Graphics card: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (DirectX 12.1, 2048MB) Driver version: 32.0.101.6790 Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduler: false

Darktide conflict with HAGS is a common telltale of module ‘sl.interposer’ being corrupted and requires DDU to fix

Turns out HAGS was enabled on Windows side, I get a completely different error on launch now with it disabled. Still looking into DDU, as I have never used that before.

You weren’t supposed to disable HAGS in Windows, just to check what the status is

Turn it back On and just clean your GPU drivers with DDU and install new ones.

Yes, this is because you have framegen on and framegen wont work without HAGS
