Which update was The Best for the game in your opinion?
I made this poll just for fun, and because I was interested in your opinion.
(Also, Iâve included this part with my opinion here, just because)
I think itâs Class Overhaul and by a long shot
Class Overhaul numbers - 33824:
Crafting was ass, yes, but it really didnât affect how I enjoyed the game, it was the same as it always was. But it did make crafting much more bearable, I no longer needed to spend hours to just try something out.
And Class Overhaul breathed new life in the game, I just loved how Ogryn can finally taunt stuff and be more interesting. I just loved what they did with him, sadly they started rapidly nerfing the guy. I can only remember these stuff:
Made him less tanky(FNP was nerfed and changes to how TDR calculates were making Ogryn less tanky, but I am pretty sure it was reversed), less bleed, his stagger is now inconsistent a lot of the times because of enemy buffs, rending on elite kill is just worse Veteranâs ability and was also nerfed a lot, taunt still doesnât taunt bosses for reasons, less toughness from heavy hits, less CDR from Bruiser, Heavyweight was halfed, Indomitableâs fun interaction when you applied double the stacks of bleed at the end of your rush was removed.
But, whatever, I just fell in love with talent tree, itâs much cooler than before when you could choose between 3 talents every 5 levels from level 5
One update changed how we play the game, another changed how we interact with everything outside of the game, interesting stuff
Look I lean towards class overhaul but not enough to cast a vote because I donât think the importance of the crafting update for the long term health of the game can be emphasised enough.
Class overhaul had more immediate wow and excitement factor, unlocked and loaded is massive for long term retention and not turning people off.
Basically they were both integral updates for the game achieving different but crucial things. I canât really bring myself to pit them against each other.
Yeah, this is the best part of this poll, itâs hard to actually decide what is more important and is really based on how the person thinks.
I will add 2 more options to the poll to make it less biased
PS: Nope, I am late, I wanted to add two options: Another and Canât Decide
The poll is fine, itâs a fun intellectual hypothetical and for people who canât pick like me we can just not vote and comment instead ![]()
Unlocked and Loaded definitely deserves a 2nd place spot compared to the impact of the Class Overhaul.
Itâs not that we didnât need the crafting rework (we did, desperately) its just that we needed the class rework more. FS did a good job prioritizing their reworks here, although I wish they would have dumped the locks as soon as they realized it was a problem. Why did it necessitate a full rework to get rid of them? I can only assume there was some deep design reason for hanging onto them for so long, or perhaps it was just internal politics. The world may never know.
think unlocked was only really impactful for the few percent that use net generated meta builds.
if you didnât view certain boxes as essential you didnât care tot ick them.
Bizarre take. Personally there were a bunch of kinda meme setups I wanted to try but was absolutely not willing to pull the lever on over and over to get going. Just acquiring blessings in the first place could be a nightmare in the old system if you just happened to get kinda unlucky or the weapon had a large blessing pool.
Way more incentive to be a meta slave with the old system because you wanted to minimise your exposure to crafting as much as possible.
While class overhaul was interesting, I can live without it more than UaL.
In objective terms, I think the importance of both of them canât be overstated and you could argue neither is better.
Personally though, getting shiny new toys/content we never would have had access to otherwise via the class update just slightly beats out weapon crafting for me.
Itâs what made me come back and bump my 200 hours at launch up to 1k hours post class update. Maybe the weapon update might have brought me back the same way, but I certainly wouldnât have been quite as excited.
Gotta say, after I took I donât know how long to get full red gear with perfect blessings in V2 and enough resources to reroll, the RNG fetish of Fatshark was the biggest thing that turned me off from Darktide.
After I read about the U&L update, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the game. So I canât really comment on the class overhaul, but the crafting was the deciding factor for me.
Itâs a good question. I donât have anything more to add then @alsozara already did. They worded it great.
since i only play one character i had my max gear long before unlocked and loaded came.
the fact that i can upgrade the other benchwarmers i kept around doesn´t mean i switch my playstyle to take em for a spin.
to be able to fine tune my ogryn though is a huge win for both my gameplay experience and ability to shape my char further.
Classes were a bit lacking and limited but still okay, and they were fun to play.
Locked equipment was never a good or engaging feature.
So for me, Unlocked and Loaded made a greater positive impact with Class Overhaul a close second.
One update made the game actually fun to play, and the other made it less of a chore to gear. I think having a game worth playing is a lot more important than players having âagencyâ over what extra buffs their weapons take. Unless âVT2 but worse and without classesâ was all you wanted Darktide to be.
Patch 13 was the point at which I think DT came out of beta.
The class trees were a part of that, sure, and at the time it felt like a real freedom. Freedom from the 12 month Vet meta
.
But I think more crucially, the balance was better. All classes felt likeable. There was still a challenge. The game just felt⌠good.
The great unlock has also been a revelation, but I think FS fell short on simultaneous balance. Opening Pandoras Box then doing nothing about it before Havoc has turned me away from the game.
It is an interesting question for sure and I donât think there is a âcorrectâ answer to it.
Class overhaul added a ton of, much needed, content, especially for the time.
Iâm still going to say crafting update because itâs been THE issue since DTs inception and will be more important for the future of the game.
Thereâs a reason @brosgw masterpiece of a thread was / is the most active thread for two years!
Edit: without realizing it, I essentially paraphrased what @alsozara already said.
both of them were awful for the game itself, but the amount of raw butthurt by people that couldnât do their minmaxing was making the community toxic to near yu gi oh levels.
Both patches were awful?
No they werenât. What a ridiculous thing to say. Literally feels like youâve said that to be contentious.
This is such an insanely dumb take, Iâm not sure if this is either âthe most obvious rage-bait post everâ or âthe magnum opus of bad Ol_Jakal takesâ.
Hats off, I really canât tell.
