Some powerful weapon such as Power sword, shock maul and pickaxe have 90% rending against carapace. Even over 100% on heavy attack. But some other weapons’ light attack can only deal 10+% on light attack and 30% on heavy attack. Such as knife and devil claw. That may be why fatshark set such 120% rending for uncanny blessing. If the unbalanced weapon basic rending get reset, the nerf for uncanny strike will be easy and effective.
Vet’s mark 1 shovel is definitely the best example of this. Without Uncanny, pushstab is your only real way of dealing carapace damage. With Uncanny, lights go from 0 adm to 1 and you can just mash them.
Many people in forum shout for nerf to uncanny, but they didn’t realize what it means to other weapons. Such a joke. Even if DS is overpower, other uncanny weapons need additional balanced. Or just go nerf DS.
Blessings doesn’t have to be the same on all weapons in fact some already aren’t.
Surely some of the easier quick-fixes whilst they’re still so stubborn about the state of the DS’s raw stats especially could be something like:
- Make the Shiv’s Uncanny the new baseline → E.g., non-backstab knife builds can still benefit from some amount of rending (assuming Ruthless Backstab remains the only way to get conditional 100% Rending on hit), etc.
- Buff the Sapper Shovel’s ADM
- Remove Uncanny from the DS & Force Swords → Limits DS armour bullying capabilities whilst still letting its absurd finesse scaling remove any fleshy enemy type from realspace & Same effect for the Deimos FS especially; If they really wanted to, they could even give them a new blessing like a conditional “+20% Melee Weakspot Rending” (similar to how Ruthless Backstab and Agile work) or something instead of Uncanny.
There’s quite a few things they can do that don’t involve warping global balance around outliers even more ![]()

Ogryn never worry about carapace rending because almost all of ogryn’s weapons are effective against carapace. But the others weapons which have uncanny will become trashes without that blessing. You can see what devil claw and have sword be.
Why don’t set ogryn’s weapons basic rending as the same with knife, shovel, and force swords? That will be more balance. I don’t know why some ogryn players like you don’t like uncanny and shout for nerf. Just because you don’t have that? Ogryn’s weapons have the highest basic rending against carapace, but no one shout it for nerf.
Ogryn’s weapons have the best damage bonus blessing pool in this game. Even the weakest headtaker can provide 25% stable damage bonus. But you think the other weapons should content with 20% weakspot rending? That’s so double standard.
Rending/brittleness should be just relabelled as (+% damage against carapace and flak), since that’s what it is since all weapons have separate damage profiles for carapace, rather than carapace actually providing any additional damage reduction or thresholds.
Actually, some weapons have over 100% rending against other amours. Such as thunder hammer and infantry autogun can deal more damage against unyielding by more rending rate.
Yes, but that’s just adding damage to an existing damage number, unyielding also doesn’t really reduce damage by itself because that’s all implied by the weapon damage profiles.
The carapace damage resistant of VT2 is more balance. But I don’t know how it works. When I play VT2 the chaos warriors are troublesome but solvable for all weapons. But crusher group seems invincible for some weapons without uncanny in DT.
VT2 had unarmoured, armour, super armour, berserkers and monsters.
Super armour was outright immune to almost everything, and armour was immune to anything that didn’t have armour piercing. Chaos warriors were super armoured except with an armoured weakspot.
Rending and brittleness are a bit out of control in Darktide since you can get rending/brittleness up to a ridiculous degree, and even though it doesn’t seem like it, it’s more of a massive damage boost rather than bypassing their protection
Crushers have no real non-brute force, non-numerical way to outplay them since they have no damage-type weakspots, it’s all about stacking numbers.
Huh? What has ogryn to do with this he doesn’t even have any weapons that have uncanny strike, or are you just assuming that I only play ogryn because of my profile picture? I play all classes.
If you are trying to say that some weapons like devils claw and heavy sword should have higher adm vs carapace then I agree with that no weapon should be useless against them.
If weapons like force sword and knife get rebalance for carapace, no one will think nerf of uncanny unacceptable.
Rending is a broken mechanics which allows highest mobility, highest attack speed, highest crit chance + damage + weakpoint modifiers -
To do the job of slow purposeful anti armor weapons.
Even if rending didnt work on dots (and it shouldnt) it would be broken, it cannot NOT be broken to have ds/knife etc.. to spam light attack bodyshots to carapace and damage it.
The only application of rending (even baseline 100% rending) should be flanking/backstabs.
Game needs to remove some 50% damage of meta weapons, reduce the carapace spam to fast weapons are still good BUT anti armor weapons have a place.
Not to mention thunder hammer powered attack should 1shot crusher without needing to invest into anything.
But there’s only 4 current weapons with Uncanny at 100%
It’s not that complicated to solve
Bring DS to 8% per stack like the others
Bring Knife and Forcesword to 12% per stack
Bring shovel to 16-20% per stack
That’s it I don’t see how hard it is, unless you want uncanny removed of course, which would be the more healthier choice and then rebalance the pen of these weapons (and others) but y’know, shouldn’t be hard to quickly solve the 4 uncanny weapons situation
Remove Thrust blessing from thunderhammer and add it as basekit of the weapon
Knife mk III heavy attack adm is fine without uncanny. Generally an attack queue with adm over 0.5 against carapace is enough. We have been spoilt by uncanny leading to a completely warped view of damage against carapace. Btw catachan on vet or psyker is a strong pick.
But knife III has almost zero cleave. Compare with poor aoe damage, it’s rending is not good enough. Besides, knife light attack can deal nearly no damage against any amour without rending blessing.
No, if uncanny get such nerf. The basic rending of those weapons should get buff to suit the benefit of uncanny with other blessings. If not it can not still reach the real balance.
