Blazing Spirit on melee is bugged/useless

So; I put Blazing Spirit 4 on a Deimos force sword as part of a wildfire Purgatus build. Figured I’d go all out on the white snow (not that white snow…)

It never triggers on trash mob (where you’d actually want it), and on the rare occasion it fires on a larger target it’s utterly pointless as it does no peripheral damage of note. Compared to any other [+damage] skill, actually I think any skill, it’s utterly pants.

I’d been running it for a while with seemingly nothing to show for it before I thought I’d stick my head in the meat grinder to test it out of the heat of battle.

I’m not a pro youtuber, so this is a shoddy shadowplay video of me hitting stuff a lot to see when it’d fire.

If there’s a psyker crit build with wildfire I don’t know about then I’ll take recommendations gratefully. Otherwise, I’m consigning this one to the bin and going back to the Slaughterer and Executor Illisi.

I’d honestly take the blessing out from the sword to keep it for later use.

[ Blazing Spirit ] doesn’t stay on for long to do enough damage to enemies vs just charging the blade and bapping them with it.

I think the only way it makes sense is to use it on an Illis force sword in conjunction with Bloodthirst. Bloodthirst makes it so that your attack after a special attack has a 100% crit chance hit rate, so basically continuously chain the special attack to spread blazing spirit.

In theory anyway. In reality, all your crits just mean you kill everything before the fire would do much. But it’s a way to generate warp charges if using Ascending Blaze.

Let me bring a little light to why Blazing Spirit on the force swords sucks.

Number 1: Wildfire is bugged and not working properly

Wildifre currently suffers from the following bugs:

  • Wildfire has a hidden cap of 4 stacks. That is, targets having 5 or more stacks of Soulblaze cannot be targeted by Wildfire regardless of the stacks on the original target and targets with 4 stacks consume a stack but only refresh their duration.

  • Original targets that have only one stack of Soulblaze cannot trigger the effect.

The combination of these makes it very hard to get any proper value out of the feat as it usually can only proc when the mobs on the edge die and it will decay very quickly due to spreading the stacks evenly to mobs in range and not being able to spread a single stack further. The proc range of 5 meters does not help.

Number 2: Blazing Spirit is applied after the damage IF the target survives

Crits do more damage, with Force Swords being the Assassin type, they get a good bonus for their weakspot and crit damage. That being said, a crit often ends up killing the target which results in no Soulblaze, so you need your target to live after the crit. This is bad design in a game where you want stuff to die as fast as you can.

If the Soulblaze effect was applied before the damage, one could get a lot more Wildfire and Ascendant Blaze warp charge procs from the critical hits.

Number 3: Not enough crit chance

This could be potentially fixed if Number 1 and 2 is fixed, but for the current iteration you just don’t have enough constant crit chance to get a good value out of Blazing Spirit. You could also use Illisi with +5% crit chance and Shred 4 or Bloodthirsty, however this brings us to…

Number 4: Using the wrong Force Sword, but it still doesn’t matter

You absolutely need to use the Illisi force sword for this as it is the only one that actually has good horizontal strikes to apply the effect on as many targets as you can. However, even with Shred 4 or Bloodthirsty, you end up with the problems of Number 1 and 2. Illisi usually just ends up killing the targets leaving very little enemies with the Soulblaze effect. You are just better off stacking Slaughterer with something else like Unstable Power or Executor.

EDIT:

Now someone could say you could combine Deimos with Blazing Spirit 4 and Bloodthirsty to beef up your single target damage with the special attack but it’s a bad idea. Firstly, you need to special an enemy to get it going. Secondly, the special locks you in an animation where you are unable to defend yourself if needed. This game is mostly fights where you are out numbered, if you stand still in melee range you die.

The Deimos 2nd heavy can already one shot a mutant with correct blessings and +maniac so there is no reason to use the special other than finishing a lone elite with style points.

It’s a terrible blessing and simply doesn’t work.

If Blazing spirit worked differently, it could be built around.

Blazing spirit needs to activate on charge attacks, not on crits. We don’t hve crit builds for our class.

Blazing spirit needs to apply the soul blze before damage so it can synergize with wildfire.

Those two changes make it into a fun and interesting blessing. Right now it simply is garbage
