Admitting to this would probably assuage a lot of community complaints since it seems like a good chunk of people still consider Darktide the ‘flagship’ title that should have the bulk of dev resources on it.
I personally think they’ve abandoned it with the experienced devs going back to VT2 or getting thrown at the unnamed UE5 game, but hey. Confirmation one way or another would be nice.
For what it’s worth there is a job posted at FS for a Producer. Fairly high level role and essentially the glue that binds the product delivery process all together. Maybe there is no producer for Darktide right now and so nothing of consequence is being advanced in any sort of coherent timeframe.
darktide has already been published on all relevant platforms. pc almost 3 years ago, xbox 2 years, psn 1 year or so. most sales happen after release, and after a couple years it’s probably a trickle, with spikes during steam sales, warhammerfest, larger patches when players return and bring their buddies etc… so in-game cosmetics are a larger factor for revenue. that has to be balanced against costs for employees, servers, whatever. so i doubt they still have darktide as flagship title. rather most devs have been working on that ue5 title for quite some time.
How so? And why would DR be end of life while VT2, with fewer players, wouldn’t be? If anything, it sounds like a win for player counts (and prolly revenue).
Kinda makes sense why they prioritized the Battle for Tertium (aside from Arbites of course). Any improvements to onboarding should pay dividends. Hopefully the next update fixes the funky mission board.
Yeah. It wouldn’t be a problem at all, if they simply communicated as much. I mean, even a blog that outright explained why the pace of development is what it is and is unlikely to change would be welcome. Ah well, at least silence is better than seeing Hedge’s wildly passive-aggressive commentary and wondering how he still had a job every time I saw him in the wild.
Because a game would pay a high monthly retainer to MS to stay there, to hope skin sales would offset this cost while heading toward the slow death of bare minimum content release, sporadically and effortlessly mouthfed to the newbies that didnt understand yet that half of the NPC are useless, two third of the weapons are boring andnot viable, the chaos spawn is recycled from VT2…
I’ve read about both options but I don’t think they are exclusive.
Coproduced games where MS has invested talents to collaborate often have a clause to be swallowed by the game pass when they reach EoL, but games independent from MS pay to be in game pass.
You know what I just realized? There’s no official announcement of the trailer on these forums. @deusvult6 posted that the trailer dropped, but there’s no actual forum announcement by a Fatshark employee of the trailer like we usually get.
Am I crazy, or is it usually Fatshark employees (CMs) that post the trailers on these forums, not the players?
I had to double check. But they had the “free update, battle for tertium” announcement, and then the main patch notes had the trailer as well. But it’s weird because the patch notes are from June 19th, but the trailer says “June 23rd”. So, idk, maybe I’m crazy.
Then in that case! The post was also made public on the 23rd, so the trailer was included with the patch launch. Which is weird in it’s own right, normally trailers come out before the content they’re teasing.
Edit: Did you see that new Jurassic Park trailer? I can’t wait to watch the movie once the other trailers are finished in 5 minutes!
