I’m not 100% sure but it looks like ASS does not progress (or possibly restarts) when you join mid mission and/or when placeholder bot dies before you join (hypothesis).
Just lost my “stacked ASS” (1/5 - so I wasn’t fuming like last two times) and joined Auric Maelstrom mid mission.
I’ve completed it without dying and checked penance progress. THERE WAS NONE.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. Play AM with ASS progress 1/5
  2. Die. Sigh deeply and wait for rescue.
  3. Complete Mission
  4. Try to join another Auric Maelstrom
  5. Join Mid Mission (20% done? something like that)
  6. Complete it without dying.
  7. Check thickness of your ASS (progress) - THERE IS NONE.
  8. Sigh again.

It is like that since release. You can lose your progress if you join a running match, but you will not gain any for completing it.

That’s why most people going for the title immediately alt+F4 when they load into a match in progress.

So there is no way to complete penance without waiting for 1st couple of seconds after AM changes?!

Yes. The ability to host a match or open up a lobby would solve this easily. Might wanna add this to the grudge thread.
