Arbites dialogue sucks

No, not that one. I still maintain that I don’t like their voices but I’ve warmed up to Male Fatalist a little bit at least. I have a different complaint regarding the interactions between Arbites and other characters.

Most of the dialogue I’ve heard consists of the cop saying something Big and Intimidating and Inspiring followed by a “so true bestie” from some other character. They rarely have anything interesting to pitch in and don’t even have any gossip.

It sucks and makes them even more dry than they already are. Get those cops back in the recording booth ASAP!

Thanks to Bruva Alfabusa this is how I hear all Arbitrators now.

The lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex is the lex.

I genuinely hate this line and that’s kind of impressive for a game to do. Did you know there are at least 24 variants of “The lex is the lex”? I had to mod it out and the game’s already so much better for me because of it. (Thank you Eggfever)

I think the Arbites dialogue is bugged. People reported that regular operatives without Arbites in the party talk frequently, perhaps more than they used to.

So that probably affects each other as well, and dialogue is making incorrect calls that ends with “That is the will of the Lex.”

What I don’t like, is that they are not much “human”.

For example, yesterday playing, some char told my Arbitrator something like “in Arbites do you have humor?”

And my Arbitrator answered something like “There are many ways of humor”.

Not funny, boring.

I would like my Arbitrator answered something like “We usually execute people with your sense of humor”.

I have more ideas.

Arbitrators talk too much about laws… yes they are Arbitrators but… com on… can’t they be more “human”?

The voices are ok, IMO.

I hope that is true.

Damn, why isn’t this a voice option???

That said, I like Alix Wilton Regan’s voice work. Her delivery of the line about “What’s worrying is that you find this impressive” is just great.

This is a good point. But, having known police officers, their humor may actually be too grim for even this game.

I mean, I knew officers who kept picture books of dead people who died in funny positions.

I was gonna put in a clip from The Departed (“she fell funny”), but I think it’s too spicy for this forum.

Yes… I was thinking the same.

But maybe just a bit.

It is 40K.

(I am catholic, so get an idea of how bad i think are the conversations).

PS: Alix Wilton Regan’s voice work is perfect IMO.

Yeahhh, I think the only enjoyable interaction I’ve seen/heard thus far between them is when the arbites complement the mad/german Psyker, and the Psykers all giddy/happy that he’s getting recognized by an authoritative figure as being effective. I can’t even remember what the Arbite says in the exchange though (despite playing him), I just remembered my normally main Psyker, instead of being ‘appreciative but subdued’ in their response (like their ‘yes, I am trullly dangerous’) basically being a giddy school girl like (YES YES I’M SO HAPPY YOU THINK SO!) (that one is paraphrased as I heard a few across the play session and they are all jumbled together atm in my head xD). The interaction was entirely carried by the Psykers response, verses anything the Arbite said or how they said it.

I do really think Arbite was rushed out the door, I feel a good few iterations behind the scenes would have done this class well, both in actually being interesting build wise (they are insanely boring/I got bored playing with them in like 3 days after release, where as the Ogryn took me months despite being similar levels of broken), and in their voice lines going through a few more levels of revisions and takes. I do ‘like’ my Fatalist/still think he’s the best acted and enjoyable to hear (along with the one female one that seemed to care, that I can’t confirm as I only had the one character slot left), but one can only take boring dialogue so far, and multiple flavors of ‘I am police and don’t commiserate with garbage’ , ‘sure thing boss’ can only be ‘done up’ by the VA’s so effectively.

Another nice exchange would be a joke that I originally heard about the leaders of Western and Eastern Germany, Helmut Kohl and Erich Honecker, talking about their hobbies when Germany still was divided into two countries:

Helmut Kohl: “I collect the jokes that people tell about me.”

Erich Honecker: “I collect the people that tell jokes about me.”

I could imagine this being a fitting response from an Arbitrator.
