Instead of updating your drivers, please try a clean re-installation instead:

It worked. Now I have other problems (lags or glitch (photo)) but I can launch the game anyway.

Did you get the Windows 11 update that breaks everything 24H2 update recently? I had the same memory access violation crashes with the game, though it happened mid game rather than on launch.

I’m not sure what fixed it but assuming that’s the case, my fix attempts in the order I recommend:

  • Install the optional Windows 24H2 preview update KB5050094 which fixes some of the issues caused by the update. This includes fixes for autoHDR causing display issues if that’s applicable for you here.
  • Uninstall the game, including manually deleting the darktide folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Fatshark
  • Completely wipe and reinstall my drivers with DDU. I have a guide for that if you’d like to clean reinstall again but if not it also has some recommended changes to Windows settings that may help.
  • Download Darktide again

From what I can find online, apparently some core Windows kernel code was rewritten for performance and “memory stability” but I suspect that’s what’s causing all these issues with games.
