Add new staves

This is such a great idea, I’d love to see it. Only downside would be that it would require skill to use and the other staves are stupid strong and braindead easy, so this one might suffer as a result.

Didn’t really read the post (no offense), but I would love more staves.

And make the enemies affected give Psyker higher melee crit chance when attacked with melee attacks, during the effects of the staff. Could be an 8s duration, to give enough time for melee swap and attacks.

Could also be a way to “force” weapons that otherwise lack Crit chance blessings to be stronger on a Crit build or reduce the need for Crit chance Blessings on those melee weapons.

no offense is take, but please, read the post for at least the lazpistol part, i wanna know what people think of that one specifically.

Could’ve just left out the admission “didn’t read the post” entirely.

lol

I think it’s a good idea, but it has greater potential. I once wrote a post suggesting somewhat broader version of it, as an idea of how to add some development for your characters beyond the current lv cap. I called it a Battle Trance, a new special ability you need to charge and activate. It would work with (almost) any combo of ranged and melee weapons.

Ranged Battle Trance

In this mode you lose alternate fire mode of your ranged weapon and instead it becomes a melee attack button for the duration of it. Thus you may be able simultaneously to both fire your gun and swing your melee weapon without switching between them (your character is shown as holding both weapons in their hands). This always works as such for both two-handed and one-handed ranged weapons (your character just hold the bigger gun in one hand using somewhat different hold), but for those normally assuming two hands to operate that significantly increases their spread and recoil, thus making them useless beyond very close range. When it comes to melee, you can only wield one-handed weapons in your other hand (knives, light swords or bats etc). If your melee weapon is of heavier type and you enter Ranged Battle Trance, your RMB will instead allow you to do some staggering and CC moves with your ranged weapon itself, regardless of its type (different types have different options).

While activated, BT allows very rapid switching between melee attacks and firing your ranged weapon, as all animations and transitions are greatly sped up, to provide you smooth Gun Kata-style experience. Reloads still are happening normally with your character quickly temporarily putting away their melee weapon to do it. You also get some increase to your damage output, but only if you keep engaged (it’s granted via stacking short-living bonuses you get for repeatedly attacking with BOTH ranged and melee weapons). You can execute heavy melee attacks by holding RMB longer. You can also still push your foes by holding RMB and clicking LMB (but no blocking).

This Ability was supposed to be charged by killing foes and activated in time of need. Particular interactions between ranged and melee weapon types equipped would depend on each particular weapon combo. It also defined “takedown moves” which are effectively some unique special moves (unique to each particular weapon types combo, so like all “pistol-size ranged weapons and sword-like melee weapons when combined have that selection of takedown moves”), dealing additional damage and various effects to foes. You were supposed to unlock those moves, as well as ability to combine various weapons by advancing your weapon masteries past the current max lv cap.

Hey, I’m honest, was neither negative nor positive. Lol. I apologize for my terrible attention span. Went ahead and read it. I dunno, I’d probably prefer something different in the staff department. It’s not a bad idea though. I guess a melee sort of staff would be neat, if it had some psy-powers as well. A perfect block = massive stagger or extra damage? Charges up like the force greatsword and can explode in aoe? Just spitballing.

Alternatively, I think your staff idea could be neat if it could block ranged while shooting the laspistol (like the arb riot shield + shotpistol), while building peril, and then perhaps dump the energy in some sort of scaling, staggering wave akin to the venting shrik, or simply reflect bullets back at the attacker, at a peril cost. Because a laspistol on it’s own is just not that strong, or fun to me. It’s one of the weapons I never use, except to RP a little on lower difficulties. So I’d want it to have some kind of good utility or damage, like the other staves. This would also let me not take deflector on my melee weapon, which would boost it.

Let’s see, what else.. Psykers often leave icy chill on things, maybe a cryomancy staff with an ice theme. Slowly freeze enemies until they become shatter-able?

Or.. some kind of gravity staff, leave little blackholes on the ground, in the air, attach them to enemies, deals dot like damage, slows/immobilizes them.

Just went to read the wiki on psykers for ideas. Didn’t really give me any, besides flavors of fire. But there was some other cool stuff, biomancer psykers can turn their limbs to iron and go fisticuffs. I’ve also read about psykers changing their incorporeal form into things during psyker on psyker battles, not sure if that has material applications though, also sounds like more of a spec than a staff ability. And some psykers have pupeteering powers, letting them take control of enemies, not sure how effective that would be, but having a pet crusher sounds funny and potentially useful.

Honestly, some kind of biomancer staff or just a support spec that allows you to heal sounds neat too, but also not really balanced.

It’s hard coming up with good staff ideas. But at the risk of sounding repetitive, I would really enjoy having a new one. Ice sounds like it could have some potential.
