I’ll try to make it brief: it’s not fun to do the very same thing over and over again for some currency, not even if it were aquilae! Events such as the current “Unrelenting hordes” are fine, but requirements such as “collect 30 grimoires or scriptures” is better suited as achievements/penances.
Instead, the devs should try dividing the events among primary and secondary objectives: one or two long run objectives and several short run objectives. Secondary objectives are completed individually, but together they count towards completing the main objectives so that you can always do something fun while progressing towards the long-term prize.
Here’s an example of how I’d do it:
UNRELENTING HORDES
(event briefing)
[Main Objective]:
Complete 25 missions with the “Infected Moebian 21st” modifier active (0/30)
[Secondary Objectives]:
- Collect 10 Grimoires or Scriptures (1/10)
- Kill 250 infected Moebian 21st troopers (80/250)
- Kill 10 Scab Flamers by blowing up their fuel tanks (10/10)
- Complete 2 Assassination missions
- Collect 5000 Plasteel
- Dodge 5 jumping Poxhounds
…and so on and on, until the 30 missions are complete and everyone’s had a good time. Each secondary objective offers a small reward, while the main objective unlocks something bigger.
