I think a better idea would be a whole new Power Sword that shares the same heat mechanic as the Relic Blade but also actually looks like the kind of Power Sword you would find in the Imperial Guard, instead of the Arming sword-esque style of the Astartes and Inquisition. It is quite the sticking point for me with the Power Sword, it looks so out of place to be wielding it. With a new Imperial Guard-esque Power Sword the old 1H one could be opened up to the Zealot as it aesthetically suits them more (arguably).

Not an other weapon that becomes incredibly broken once it is available to other classes.
I don’t think all those weapons need to be just like the new power swords, but I do think there needs to be an over-all revamp of weapon specials, especially Activated specials.
When you compare the recent shockmauls and these new Power and Force weapons, the pure fun and usability of the activations is so much better than the old ones.
I tried playing with the Ogryn Shock Maul again recently, and the activation is SO SLOW, it doesn’t change from or into anything, and it doesn’t even stagger a crusher. Sure there’s situations where you chain activate hit activate hit and keep a whole pack of armor boys on the floor that it feels good, but those are few and far between. And honestly, heavy attacks with a Brunt Basher also keeps a whole team of anything on the floor, AND kills them faster.
The old Force Swords with the stab, that should be an instant like the new Shock Mauls. They would be so much more fun… so yea, don’t rebalance weapons, but give the activations and specials some love to be as fun as new weapons.
So you noticed that as soon as ObeseTuna started handing out this and that weapon to everyone else things got a bit… wierd. Its almost as if giving a weapon designed with a specific set of limitations in mind to a class without those limitations causes problems. Totally unexpected and unpredicated result that clearly needs more investigation.

I like the power sword a lot both versions and both classes, but this segways into not everything needing changes because you don’t like it. I don’t like Cadian chainsword at all but I never see @Ryshek without it so clearly it can work fine if you put in the time. Lots of similar cases where they’d probably not be happy seeing changes or grossly overdone buffs. But I don’t think anyone’s feelings would be hurt if you took another stab at the power maul.

There are some where it makes sense and some where it just doesn’t and it’s really obvious which is which.
I do not understand this point at all.
If we get more swings on the PS, the damage needs to get nerfed.
The current PS comes with the feature of being micromanagement intensive, which, together with other factors like making you move like a brick, allows it to hit as hard as it does. It has an interesting niche. Moving it away from the niche will make it clash with all the other generalistic melee weapons that lose out to the mobility options.
I would love more weapons to be as much of a pain to use, but benefit from it in some other way.
The middle ground of weapons that do everything right is crowded as hell. We do not need another melee weapon of that kind.
I don’t get this at all. I understand the surface level analysis but I don’t see it holding up.
The main drawback of the PS is it’s bad defensive traits. What good does insane damage output do for you when your surrounded by too much to chew threw? You’re dead and any other melee weapon with better dodges or higher mobility would’ve saved you.
It’s about QoL for me and if you gave the regular PS the heatbar, it would still not be vets bet melee weapon. DS would still be number one and combat knife is still number two.
In a way, not having a heatbar is also a benefit. You never need to worry about overheating and you have access to power attacks at all times.
I would gladly try it out and eat my words but I just don’t see it making the regular PS broken.

Yes, power sword is clearly more of a crutch than any psyker staffs or abilities. Awful take.
I hate the Vet Power Sword and would love it to get the Relic Blade treatment. I don’t understand how people can enjoy activation light spam over and over again. And yes obviously it’s damage would need to be changed.
Crusher is fine as is for how it plays. I would like it to appear like its on all the time, because it’s strange that you’re using a power maul as a normal maul 90% of the time.
Thunder Hammer doesn’t need a Relic Blade mechanic but it needs something. Even after the most recent buff it doesn’t meet the standards both it’s niche and premise need it to.
Ogryn Power Maul? I don’t know how to fix that piece of trash. All the worthless blessings they added to it certainly didn’t help. Only hope for it is a full damage redesign, maybe with a moveset redesign

Tell me, how do you play the MK6 Power Sword on Vet?
Do we not use powered heavies to stagger groups of elites and push attacks to snipe oggs? There’s a lot more moveset variation there then if I were to run Mk6 knife and just push stab until the game ends.
as I have precised:
New Mark or whatever please. I quite enjoy power sword VI these days and would rather it wasn’t messed with. In fact I’d vehemently oppose the relic blade heat mechanic replacing current Vet power sword however they balanced the numbers.
Could also take a different approach to please more people with power sword. Like a blessing that has it perma active but only gets half the boost power mode usually gives or similar.
Point is giving options is great, replacing what’s there, nah I’ll pass.
I don’t think Thunder weapon would make sense with such a Mechanic, their use really is activating and sending all the energy in the first thing they hit.
Now I wouldn’t be against Crusher and Power Maul getting the new system, but it would probably be accompanied by a nerf of those effect (Crusher and Power Sword mainly, Power Maul could be changed without becoming too strong).
But the problem will still remain that as it would weaken the Power attack, dome people would cry wolf and be angry, and would want to go back to the current system.
