Should the Helbore be Buffed?

The Helbore seems to be intended to be a ‘have out all the time’ DMR: it has a bayonet to clean up straggling fodder, hits hard, and encourages ADS to charge shots, while being slow to bring out and not very reactive.

If that should remain its role, giving it a proper scope or sight to mirror the infantry lasgun would instantly improve it.

If not, it needs a vastly faster swap (the charge delays damage enough imo).

Heck, I’d accept removing the weapon special for ‘activate/deactivate a scope’ for the Mk3.

Infantry lasguns also need a buff but that’s a different story.

Yes, buff.

This is actually the weapon I would prefer to use when playing Vet, but other options out perform it currently. I would like to see a variant where I could click once for it to auto charge and shoot once full, creating a unique timing around that mark.

I didn’t even think about this, that’s dumb every time you get knocked back with the weapon you have to do the animation again. It’s part of the reason why I don’t use the relic blade much either actually, whenever you get knocked back the power turns off over and over.

Nice suggestions. This would allow the helbore to cut himself a niche.
As of now, plasma gun covers the role of the helbore and more.
To give a chance for the helbore to shine a slight nerf to the plasma gun cleave is needed, especially the uncharged attack.
Then the buffs suggested by OP.I believe the helbore role should be a sorta of sniper rifle to quickly dispatch priority targets from long distance.
It was doing his job fine before the talent tree update but has since then fallen behind.

Fatshark giving us what is essentially a “shitty” warhammer mosin without a scope is like having food, a fire starter, but no pot or pan to cook with.

Ye I can cook, yeah I can eat, but wtf.

Id enjoy a buff for them, but my main problem with the Helbores is that using it kills my finger.
I can click all day with a dagger, but something about holding click down drains my finger really quickly.
Maybe if it started charging automatically on aim down sights?

Huh, on holding it down?
I wonder if the old mouse control panel applet Click Lock setting can help you, might take some practice:

Reminded of its existence it on search, exercises mentioned there too.

That or some additional keybinds for the same action, keys, mouse thumbs, foot pedals.

faster equip speed also make it sound not puny

This layered over the bwee bwahm sounds. Just a good, solid punchy rifle noise in it.

Interesting! Ill give it a try, thank!

I think the issue is fundamental idea of Helbore.
Sniper type of weapons aren’t usually good in horde type of games unless they can penetrate multiple targets. While slow swap speed prevents it to be used for taking down specials fast.
So yeah cleave and swap speed should be faster.
Game’s space is simply too fast for Helbore.

Ahhh. The Helbore, and the Plasma Gun.

Reminiscent of Star Trek phasers:

" … but commander, if we can only use the stun setting, why do you need that bigger gun? "

So back to DT; why does the one handed plasma gun have both quick and charged modes, and effectively equal (if not better) damage than the helbore. What does the helbore do better? What niche isn’t being fulfilled by the plasma?

Aye, also “long” range shots in DT are…12.5m, weapons built around long range high precision shots don’t really have too many places to really shine when an “extreme” range target may be…50m.

This is one of those weird issues where, in the lore/universe, the PG just flat out is better than such a Lasgun in basically every way a game like Darktide would care about, while its downsides around production capacities, rarity, difficulty of ammunition supply, reliability, and danger of weapon damage or harm to the user or don’t have much room to be expressed.

A scope would solve the problem without stepping on the PG’s toes.

Aye yeah an optic would make a world of difference for the Helbore.

What makes you think the helbore is a sniper rifle?

Edit: I used to think that too so it is interesting to hear other people’s logic.

The bayonet, of course.

For me it was the lack of any kind of sight or scope – obvious DMR.

Seriously though, when I first started playing I assumed that the slowest-heaviest lasgun must be intended for sniping.

What I found instead was a hybrid weapon that shreds ragers in spear mode and does a respectable job of cracking armour in gun mode.

Id even make do with a respectable red dot sight.

Legacy of Vraks cosmetic is probably closest to that. You can mod your software crosshairs to complete the effect.
