Shock Trooper (Veteran Passive Talent), after Patch #14, did FatShark add a internal hidden timer on it?

As title.
After Patch #14 launched, I tested and found out Recon Lasgun consumed way more ammo than pre-patched. So I did more investigation and found out there seems to be a hidden timer for Shock Trooper, so when crits land rapidly in a consecutive manner, some (about 50%) of the shots will consume ammo. Before Patch #14, all crits, even in rapid consecutive, will not consume ammo, just as the description of Shock Trooper.

The gun used is VId Recon Lasgun, Full Mag is 96:
1 shot, 1C, 0A
2 shot, 2C, 1A
3 shot, 3C, 1A
4 shot, 4C, 2A
5 shot, 5C, 2A

Here are some of the screenshots of my testing. As you can see, now 4 crits will cost 2 bullets instead of 0.

Is this a bug? Or a sneaky patch? Or a missed entry in the patch note? Or a missing tooltip?

Feels kind of weird since veterans were demonstrably in a bad place with the pre-patch talents, only to make the stuff that worked well worse.

I did some more tests on VIIa model, full mag is 106 (2 bullets cost per 1 shot):
VIIa, Full106, 2C, 1A
VIIa, Full106, 3C, 1A
VIIa, Full106, 4C, 2A
VIIa, Full106, 5C, 2A
VIIa, Full106, 6C, 3A

The VIIa is slower, so the result proves there is a hidden timer added to the Shock Trooper passive. But its fire rate is still not slow enough to let every crit ammo free.

Oh this is so brilliant.

Not a single soul ever told FS to nerf this talent but everyone and their grandma told them that Vet sucks to play.

The only logical conclusion is to nerf some veteran talents, clearly.

Oh and yes, I noticed this on my VId too.

Good new, with IV Lasgun’s fire rate, every crit count free ammo!

(At this point, why am I even testing this gun…)

If it wasn’t in the patch notes then report it as a bug. If the verdict comes back as “not a bug” then you have your answer.

No timer, just that each crit chain now count for 1 instance of crit refund.
The VId also got its crit chain reduced to two, the 2 ammo returned that you observed was because it was two consecutive chains back to back.

They keep doing this, first with demo team, now shocktrooper and exploit weakness. It feels like some of the devs have no idea what the others are doing.

Or should be doing.

i just dont get the point of this

beyond being the changes being undisclosed, was VId that overbearing? was shocktrooper’s ammo regen THAT overbearing?

but least they could have done was disclose it, maybe actually have a discussion about it, not that feedback was even considered for the ‘final’ patch 14 anwyays

I wish they’d nerf one thing at a time, see how it goes then proceed with further adjustments if needed.

The heavy handed-ness of Fatshark’s action/result based nerfing (where you’re trying to discourage or stop a particular action) where they not only nerf the weapon in question, but also talents, abilities, blitzes, underlying mechanics and blessing coupled with the slow nature of changes being pushed out means that the game is usually stuck with underperforming or blatantly un-fun elements for a long period of time rather than things still being strong or fun where it’s being more carefully tuned over time.

Ideally there would be a quick rollout of changes, or some OTA system where they can adjust and tweak values without having to wait for a thousand other changes to be “ready” to lump together in a large patch. They can already make changes on the server end for missions and some other elements , but why not make use of the whole server-orientated framework where things are already on the server and adjustable without needing to patch?

Relative to other weapons and their trash ammo economies, yes, absolutely. Many other weapons have since received buffs to magazine capacities and/or total ammo capacities, so it’s much less pronounced now. Most lasguns now have an ammo economy that’s comparable to other weapons. When you add shock trooper to that, they come out on top again by a considerable margin.

It’s just not effectively infinite ammo like it was before. Assuming there is actually an internal cooldown, that is. If there is, it definitely should be added to the description instead of being hidden.

Yeah absolutely agree on that. WAS WAY WAY BETTER BEFORE!
Hope they patch it out. There is no sense in using that build now, again…
Again i hope this was not intenional!

In my Testing you burn through Ammo like there is no crit Ammo save/ return at all.
It only gets worse with faster firing Recons…

i disagree that it was actually overbearing specially considering that it was already heavily tuned down in the same patch via changing it to standard fall off

that on top of this mini cooldown/change to make ‘crit chains’ only proc it once per hit rather than the whole chain just makes it feel way worse

not to say the gun is trully bad now, it still feels okay to use, fully viable, but it was a hefty nerf to do undisclosed
