If you use the talent Crystalline Will, start the animation for exploding from overloading your Peril, and use either Scrier’s Gaze or Venting Shriek to vent your peril, you will take the corruption damage as if you had exploded without killing an elite. I haven’t enabled mods since the Bound by Duty update.
Steps to Reproduce (Required):
Create a build containing Crystalline Will and either Scrier’s Gaze or Venting Shriek.
Load into the Psykhanium.
Overload your Perils of the Warp.
Use your combat ability to quell your Peril after the animation starts.
This is not a case of user error. Currently, there is no reaction time fast enough to prevent this bug from occurring because the ability triggers the corruption damage. It also isn’t a true overload, because the usual AoE damage effect from exploding doesn’t trigger, making it impossible to avoid the corruption damage from Crystalline Will. No explosion damage, no possibility of killing an elite.
I urge you to re-create the issue in the Meat Grinder and see for yourself. It is currently not possible to quell from overload with Crystalline Will active. However, if you don’t take that talent, Scrier’s and Venting Shriek work normally.
Made a quick video to elaborate what I meant. Quelling to save yourself means the explosion doesn’t happen and therefore shouldn’t be causing corruption damage. If this is intended behavior, this really should be added to the talent description of Crystalline Will with something like “Removes the ability to save yourself from an Overload by Quelling.”
Not only are you completely incorrect, you can see with your own eyes if you actually watch the attached video that the corruption was added within about a quarter of a second, which means the venting was performed well within your fictional pop timer.
I agree with this issue: Crystalline Will should not apply the corruption damage until IF / AFTER you “explode” due to over-peril. If you clear your Peril before you explode - you should not take any corruption damage. As you could clear the explosion / down state by using Venting Shriek before you explode you should also be able to prevent the corruption if you prevent yourself from exploding. Fully exploding should be the trigger event that gives the corruption, NOT the over-peril generation.
If you play around with it you’ll see that its not going over 100% peril that triggers the corruption. Rather, corruption damage is assigned immediately upon using either scriers or shriek. Its literally the ability that’s triggering it, so I think we can rest assured that this is not functioning as intended and a fix is on the way
