Power Sword effect bug?

So I finally got my hands on the Power Sword and it seems like I have a graphical bug, as it’s not glimmering blue, only with the special attack (overcharge?) it gets some sparks, but this does not look as intended, or at least I’m not sure about it, comparing it to the trailers

More than likely a bug and not a technical issue if anything. Unless you think the sword you posted is an “active” power sword, which it is not. This just seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of the weapon.

Power Swords need to be activated, otherwise they’re just like any other sword. There is no “overcharge”. I’m not even sure there is a precedent in any book where a power field was overcharged. In instances where the power-field is used but is incapable of applying its effect to weaken, it will burn out the generator in the weapon. This could be a lore-friendly way of including an overpowered weapon but keeping it balanced by leaving the sword inactive and only being powered up for a few swings.

As for the power field itself, it does seem a little bit lackluster. Although I found that the new skins ended up changing the way the power field looks and it may lean closer to what you expected an activated power sword to look like. Underneath the sparkling field, there is also a reflective sheen that covers the sword when active. This can be seen when using the new cosmetic skins that paint the weapon red, the “chaos wastes” skin if I remember correctly.

Its why I’m not sure, all I have as a reference is the books, where the sword is just acitvated and glimmers blue and the trailer, where it has the described effect, and because this does not appear when using the special function and also in normal mode, I had the impression this looks like a problem with either the my hardware and the game or well, its just a bug.

Looking at the Gaunts Ghosts books, I had also the impression, that the power supplied by its battery or reactor did not really take a toll on longer uses than 3 seconds, so I thought the gameplay function with the special attack was for “gameplay first”-reasons something of a “overcharge” and it is constantly activated, because the effect when the special function is used does not really look like what is described when using power weapons and is also not really like shown in the trailers
