Nightmares & Visions - Early Balance Look - Dev Blog Pt. 1

definitely. i kept playing despite ranting about bugs and RNG for over 2 years. it’s unfortunate that not everything is at the height of the game’s combat and art.

Yes, it is but the devs are making progress, communicating more and listening to feedback.

People can debate back and forth whether or not they’re making enough progress and that is a whole entire topic altogether that I would prefer not to get into right now; but the crafting system has completely overhauled, interesting weapons have been added and Ogryn is getting much needed attention.

Darktide is still a solid game even though it had a rocky start. I’m glad the devs are listening and making improvements to the game, Darktide still has a lot of potential to grow thanks in large part to that.

It is the only good game with good, FPS melee combat besides Doom. Space Marine 2 doesn’t even come remotely close. Neither does any other shooter game besides, I GUESS, Titanfall. But melee combat isn’t enough when there’s not even a way to choose what mission you want to do, and there’s so few people that you’re rolling odds against hitting a brick wall with your face if they can actually figure out how to finish the mission. Its just not worth it for me at this point.

Fatshark had the opportunity to make the game incredible, and all they had to do was keep it in the oven until they finished the talent trees and abandoned the idiotic RNG based weapon blessing system. That was it. Then there’d probably still be 25k+ players daily. Oh, and have actually decent skins, actually good looking player characters, and additional classes like VT2 got, but whatever, guess Darktide gets nothing.

As a result, the game struggles to get 10k people playing it. That’s horrible for a game that isn’t even three years old. It could have had 3x that value, if the developers had put in the work and not put half the builds behind gambling systems.

Yeah, 100k+ players in day one followed by losing almost 95% in like a week kneecapped this game.

The devs should have been honest about its state and shouldn’t have resorted to hostile practices in trying to squeeze cash out of it.

Its done about the same thing as V2 besides most game follow this pattern big launch then move on to other games. It also had an interesting spike in October almost full year after launch.

Graphed average players 2nd red line is DT launch date, 1st is just comparing to V2

Yerp, pretty normal! Affects all games:

Not that DT wouldn’t almost definitely have a higher player count now if it had launched a year later than it did!
