Can someone explain to me about the new cosmetics? Because I somehow imagined Adeptus Arbites differently. Or is their equipment different depending on the planets? Or are they not them at all? Who can tell me?
P.S. Of course I didn’t buy this cosmetics, although I must admit that I was itching to do so. But I decided I’d rather spend the money on shade’s, paints and primer for miniatures, as well as cigarettes and a visit to the board, role-playing games club.
These are not Arbites, but Enforcers. Arbites are basically Civil Black Ops units, equipped to the near best of the Imperium’s ability and only deployed in dire circumstances.
Enforcers, which these are, are basically the standard police force of the world, with the armor we got being the equivalent of a SWAT force probably.
eh, yes, it really is the Enforcer. But I’d like to see the Arbites, and yell at the top of their lungs, in the spirit of Judge Dredd’s “I AM THE LAW! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!”
I actually haven’t seen the old models for Arbites before…personally my favorite is the on on the bottom left with the Power Maul, the Sallet and Crest looks awesome.
And yes, why did I have the confusion?
It’s simply “translation difficulties.” Because google translated Enforcers into my language as Performers, lol. And I didn’t notice the initial bar when entering the game. And after reading the description of the costume on the Veteran, I immediately thought of the Arbiters, and I’ve never even heard of these guys. Fans, just don’t hit me, because I have read only 3 books about the adventures of the Inquisitor Eisenhorn, and in one of the books he met a girl-Arbiter, and the description of the costume reminded me of what this girl was doing.
Arbites got retconned into more of an FBI role. Enforcers are the local cops and their style varies according to the tech level and culture of the planet. These skins are closely based on the ones from Necromunda.
Adeptus Arbites were always the enforcement arm of Imperial law (the Lex Imperialis) rather than planetary law.
That is why the main Arbites courthouse of every world is traditionally placed opposite the governor’s palace to remind them that they are empowered to take down treasonous governors.
(That tidbit is from 1993 the 2nd ed Wargear book IIRC.)
Personally this is my favorite depiction of Arbites in art work. Newer than the old models, but not as slim as the new models. Very much in the style of Dredd + Robo Cop, of an armored Juggernaut of the law that is more than ready to kill if necessary and still looks very intimidating.
Huh, I think you might be right. I got most of my impressions of them from early sources like the Confrontation background in WD130 and their description in Rogue Trader. I think child me assumed that there could only be the lex imperialis and there was no room for a separate planetary law on a loyal world.
I mean, technically this is true. Realistically enforcing that would be so astronomically difficult that it isn’t even worth attempting. As long as the planet isn’t obviously corrupted, in anarchy, or not producing materials and guard regiments than some deviation from the Lex is fine.
